...can we just have it established Johnny is bi and then have him and Bobby go on a couple of dates and end up buying a house together?

I don't think even DC could retcon hard enough to make Johnny Storm anything but enthusiastically heterosexual.

Point, but honestly that reads as really out of character to me. I don't think I've ever seen Johnny act that weirdly domestic anywhere else; even with his own family it's more like "Why'd you wake me up before noon? If cold leftover pizza isn't good enough for you here's my credit card—go buy some waffles!"

Johnny can be extremely domestic, and it's established canon that he's a great cook. To the point where he's going to become a chef someday.

Fantastic Four #501, where Johnny spends the whole issue babysitting Valeria:

Fantastic Four: Death in the Family, where Johnny cooks with Sue and tells her that he wants a family of his own someday:

Johnny explaining to Ben that he wants kids of his own "more than anything":

Fantastic Four: The Wedding Special, where Reed explains that Johnny's going to become a chef someday:

Johnny as a young kid making his sister a pb&j:

Johnny being supportive of his sister:

So...sorry, but canon disagrees with you. Johnny wants kids and a family, and he definitely loves cooking.

The thing you're not getting about Johnny is that his family and his responsibility to them matter more to him than anything. Definitely more than he matters to himself. He's all about family.

Let me let you in on another secret about Johnny Storm--for all his talk, he actually loathes himself and has very low self-esteem:

This is the "I MUST DESTROY YOU" line of argument, I'm guessing? Seriously, just one scan seems like it would've done..

icon_uk posted only one panel, and bruinsfan argued that it was out of character. At that point, you have to demonstrate that there's one hell of a lot of canon proving otherwise.

One panel doesn't seem like it would've done the trick. Because it already hadn't.

Iceman wasn't a "but of course" moment for me as a reader the way, say, Northstar was, but it didn't really strike me as all that implausible either (though I agree with you about the handling). Johnny would be an entirely different matter.

Northstar was canonically gay to start, though. At least, Byrne intended that reading.

Was Bobby Drake ever meant to read as gay, rather than awkward and unlucky?

Look, I'm a HUGE Johnny Storm fan (I've read at least half of the issues he's appeared in), and let me just tell you: you're dead wrong.

#1: go read this post: http://titanstogetherr.tumblr.com/post/152136986151/johnny-storm-is-officially-bipan

I mean....Marjorie Liu has said point-blank that while writing Daken: Dark Wolverine, she wrote Johnny and Daken as having a sexual relationship.

Johnny's relationship with Peter has been fairly homoerotic since the 1960s:

This is Johnny inviting Peter to watch his sex tape (it's from Amazing Spider-Man Digital #17):

He's been coded as queer in the comics for ages. Ramzi Fawaz's The New Mutants: Superheroes and the Radical Imagination of American Comics talks about how he was queer-coded in the 1960s.

Johnny mentioning having actually dated (i.e. been attracted to) someone who doesn't fit into the gender binary (although he's apparently not into group sex):

Johnny's really not all that straight.

I'm going to have to reread the Daken stuff, because most of it came across as teasing and Daken mind-whammying people with his pheromone control.

NO!!!
