Thanks!

In the book, an unnamed cellist plays every day at 4:00 pm for 22 days, always at the same time and location, to honour the 22 people killed by a mortar bomb while they queued for bread on May 26, 1992. The account, including the time of the mortar attack, is fictional.[1] Smailović publicly expressed outrage over the book's publication. He said, "They steal my name and identity," and added that he expected damages, an apology and compensation.[1]

I hope he'd see this cameo as a respectful tribute.

I find it befuddling that - in the scenes building up to this - common-or-garden Latverians see a man in a suit of grey armour and a hood that conceals his helmet and their first instinct is "look, it's Iron Man!".

I kinda took it as a translation effect, that rather than saying, "look, it is Von Doom!" they're saying, "look! the Man of Iron!" or some such. Since Victor has left and allowed the country to fall to ruin, no more vaulted titles; now he's just "the Metal Man." But nobody's confusing him with Iron Man/Tony Stark (except for the general, and Doom did design his latest armor similar to Tony's).
