It's been confirmed by IDW that the ongoing Jem and the Holograms series will end with #26

But in the words of the song from the show,

"This is Farewell,
Farewell but not for ever."

And of course, one of the cutest same sex pairings around.

I won't post the preview blurb for this one, as it reveals a major spoiler for, I presume, #25 which really does change one of THE biggest plot points of the original series.

And in the same month, the five issue "Misfits" miniseries comes to an end too. :(

LOVE this Jetta cover!

Jem: The Misfits #5
Kelly Thompson (w) • Jenn St-Onge (a) • M. Victoria Robado (c)
OUR SONGS ARE BETTER Part Five! The Misfits Reality Show has been unearthing all of the bands secrets since day one. Jetta’s secret is bigger than all of them, but she’s also better at keeping it. Still, when coming clean might mean saving the day, will Jetta show her true colors and save her band, or just save herself?

Though this seems a touch more typically Misfit-y!

But series writer Kelly Thompson confirms that this is not the end, just the start of a change

CBR has the news

“Our ‘last issue’ — ‘Jem and The Holograms’ #26 — coming out in April is oversized, including 24 pages of story and lots of extras, so I hope the fans will enjoy that,” Thompson said in a statement to CBR. “However, ‘Jem and The Holograms’ is not over, not by a long shot. In fact, I’d say the most exciting thing we’ve ever done is in our very near future. I can’t say what it is yet, but look for it this summer. It’s not hyperbole to say it’s going to change everything about the Jem universe!”

While it’s not yet known what the next “Jem” project is, it’s notable that last year IDW united most of its other Hasbro properties into a shared universe via the “Revolution” event. While seeing Jem and the Holograms in the same stories as the Transformers and G.I. Joe may be a long shot, it would certainly fulfill Thompson’s promise that “everything” will change about the Jem universe.

Sounds intriguing.

This was the last song in the original animated series of Jem (as unlike some shows, they knew what their final episode would be) and having written a story around one of the kids (the half-Vietnamese Ba-Nee) at the Starlight House orphanage finding her real father, ended with a party where, for no real reason a truce was called, so the three main bands could do a single song together.

They could cancel GI Joe and then fold Jem into the 'Bro Verse instead and I would shed not a tear.

Or both could be in it.

Eugh, that sounds terrible. Bad enough Joe cooties are all over the current Transformers comics, but to get them all over Jem too. That wouldn't get me to buy the comic. Scraping the Joes off, that would get me back though.

I've said it before but there is real story potential for Synergy and Zartan's holotech to hAve a common source.

I only started reading the non Hama Joe book again cause of the TF crossover but I'd fangirl so hard to have Joe meet Jem.

2nd follow up, bad form I know, sorry; but according to the TFwiki write up a poster for The Misfits as an actual band in the 'Bro Verse is seen in the latest issue of the Transformer's "Optimus Prime: New Cybertron" ongoing series.

So, the merge could be happening.

Yeah, "Farewell but not forever."

Tell that to people after the Mega Man "hiatus."

Not the same company, I know, it is just whenever I see something like this, I tend to get skeptical nowadays.

Thank you so very much for bringing up that awful memory.

Except 'end and restart a few months later' is something IDW has a track record of, especially when there's a significant status quo change.

It's been done multiple times with Transformers since they started doing ongoings (the first ongoing ending to be replaced with RiD and MTMtE, Windblade ending to be replaced with Till All Are One, NoLongerRiD and MTMtE ending to be replaced with Optimus Prime and Lost Light), plus Non-RAH GI Joe, Ghostbusters (albeit this one had a couple miniseries in between the two ongoings), and Star Trek.

Aw! Well, 26 is not a bad run, especially when you throw in 5 Misfits on top, and then hopefully a relaunch or whatever they've got planned after that!

Having the Stingers there at the end makes some sense cause even though they were jerks to the starlight girls when they stayed at the mansion Riot played a big role in finding Ba-nee's father.

But not only did the Misfits abuse them far more often, they tried to exploit Ba-need to get Starlight house shut down, and neglected them when they were temporarily their legal guardian s

Not sure how I feel exactly. I agree with the speculation that this likely indicates the Jemverse being brought more fully into the wider Hasbro universe and it's got my feelings in a jumble. There's plenty of potential to be had and a big part of me is interested in that potential. I would love to see the Jem characters having more sci-fi and action types of adventures. And goodness knows the battles of the bands could gain immensely from the addition of giant robots, to start.

That said-- I don't really don't want the Jemverse to "change forever." Especially not when it's been said previously that the Jem titles have been left out of the crossovers due to the difference in tone. The tone is one of my favorite things about the Jem titles and I'm wary of the implication that it will change to suit its inclusion with the other titles. I'm not a fan of the shared universe here anyway, on top of that.

I do trust Kelly Thompson, though, and everything is just speculation at this point, so I'm trying to settle into cautious optimism.

Yeah, exactly. I would love a bit of the wacky laser attacks from the show in the comics, but the tone of the comics doesn't really fit with the wider Hasbro universe and I hope they don't change it just for that.
