Champions 5, by Mark Waid and Humberto Ramos. My eyebrow quirked as I began reading this issue because it looked like it was going for equal parts wacky Gwenpool hijinks and Serious Issues, and I wondered how they planned to pull something like that off without the two halves crashing into each other and turning the whole thing into a well-intentioned disaster. Wonder of wonder, they found just the right tack to pull it off.

Avengers 4, by Mark Waid and Mike Del Mundo. One of those comics that's all splash pages accompanied by narration. Is there a name for that format? It's surprising coming from Waid. He isn't a writer I associate with much in the way of formalist experimentation or stylistic variation; as a result, a lot of his comics read as technically well-done but not particularly fresh. His decision to go for something off the beaten track here makes this one of the freshest issues in his whole Avengers run that begin with the previous run (All-New, All-Different), in fact.

This kind of storytelling, which relies so much on these big images, doesn't work without the right artist attached, someone who needs to not only be good but also have a really distinct aesthetic. Good thing Del Mundo's got both those in spades.

She sin't wrong at all. I hope she murders a bunch of priest and pastors on sight next just to show what bullshit the current situation in fiction is.

She was wrong this time though. She should have remembered this was Champions and they don't really fight super villains.

And "current situation", what are you even talking about?

That was rather vague.

I mean how pretty much every single Pastor or Priest that shows up in a comic book is evil or shithead.

Now you're just exaggerating, since that's not true. Hell, we just saw one in Daredevil and he's obviously not evil. Hell, Daredevil in general kinda proves you wrong.

Though she did cross over into 616 before the Champions book came out, so she might not know that.

I'll quote something from her that comes later in the issue:

"If I wanted to navigate amoral shades of gray, I would have stayed on my own Earth."
