I see this What-If has extra apocalyptic writing and nonsense.

Ah yes, the What If AvX story that chose this instead of "What if the Avengers got the power of the Phoenix?"

Joy.

Or 'what if Hope had gotten the Phoenix at the start, as-was plan A'?

I think that is suppose to be what leads to Bishop's timeline where she starts a 'six second war'.

Ooh, that.. *kinda* makes sense! Not how they got here, but...

Who is this master of disguise that's taken Emma Frost's place?
And why are they not even bothering to act like her?

Also... has the artist changed since the previous issue, or has it just gotten worse?

Also also, the writing is terrible, and how the heck is Magneto breathing in space?

Who apparently can't draw a convincing collar and tie.... which you'd think would be something fairly basic.

His style of facial crosshatching is really distracting. It looks like everyone just went three rounds with Professor Paper Cuts.

In the panel with "I let my guard down for a second"--what the heck is going on with her waist? I swear to God, Barbie would have a conniption fit.

My main problem with this is that it seems to be depicting Magneto acting in ways that he was not in Earth-616. The point of divergence seems to be much earlier than, say, Scott deciding to let Magnus train Hope.

Yeah, Magneto's come straight from the 60s. The overall writing, too.

No, it's NOT.
I, too, don't agree with Morrison's depiction of Magneto but I really liked Xorn as Xorn and the Planet X arc left me hugely impressed. That "Magneto" was cuckoo crazy (sorry, Esme), pathetic, weak, cruel, etc. etc. Yes, it was highly controversial, yes, you don't like it (I don't like it too, but the thing is, it is not always about liking what we read).
But this what-if Magneto is a frigging cardboard evil puppet who knows two lines and is likely to burst into MWAHAHA or GRRR ARGH any minute. That's not a character at all.

Yea, it's like, if you felt this way about Magneto, Charles (and were correct in doing so!), then why did you put him on the team let alone training Hope?

In this universe did Magneto just keep acting anti-human while everyone else just didn't think it a big deal til right now?

Magneto's just the crazy, anti-human granpa everyone has to deal with because putting him in a home is too expensive.

"Scott, someone let Magneto too near the TV and he's complaining about humans again."
"Yes, Emma, I know. I can hear him from here."
"Might want to do something before he corrupts your adopted granddaughter any further..."
"Mmm. I'll only start worrying when he gets to his kids again."
"And that Lorna girl! Working in a detective agency in New York with a bunch'a schmucks, because she couldn't get a real job!"
(Cyclops sighs, cue laugh track)

And next issue and for the stunning finale, Palmoitti pulls out the meat grinder and starts dumping characters into it!

As opposed to the previous three issues, where he's only been dumping the characterisation.

Even worse, Wolverine, who stabbed Storm and miscommunicates Emma's telepathic message in such a way in this issue that the Avengers attack Hope again, who was open to reason first, gets to play Adam and Eve with Jean Grey because the every hero and human species is dead and Earth starts anew.

So the general tenet of this series is: "Hah, you thought it was bad before? WELL WE'LL FUCKING SHOW YOU!"

I mean, I usually enjoy Palmiotti's work, but this...this is TERRIBLE.
