It has to be said that this is a golden time for comic book adaptations into other media. Aside from the long established trend of video games, we have more movies, live action and animated series than would have seemed even plausible a few years ago.

And the range is impressive; we have Justice League Action for the kids (and the young at heart), Riverdale for those wanting a darker teen soap/drama take on Archie, Legion for the arty crowd (jk), CW is seemingly fuelled by DC shows like Supergirl, Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, and Agents of SHIELD is still powering on. In the cinema we have everything from Snowpiercer to The LEGO Batman Movie!

It will never be a primary focus on scans_daily (the clue being in the name of course), and we do have the NS: multimedia tag, but it's not used overly much, so we thought it might be interesting to create a weekly post where you can discuss or dissect any shows you have enjoyed, are anticipating or want to recommend.

And don't feel limited to English language materials; Asterix movies, manga adaption, all are fair game. The more variety the better!

This will be a test run for four Sundays, if it proved popular we'll keep it going, if not we'll let it fade away.

Your input would be appreciated so, if you're interested in this as an idea, go for it!

I was wondering, how do you feel when a comic you love gets an adaptation that a)is awesome and b)is absolutely nothing like the comic?

For example: Guardians of the Galaxy (I never read the comics). The movie is great. It's also nothing like the comic, and in fact I heard that the comic has gone through a bunch of changes to be more like the movie. How do GotG fans feel about that?

Or, if you liked the original Big Hero 6 comic, how do you feel about the many changes in the movie?

I can't really talk about comic books, but I had a similar experience with How To Train Your Dragon being, in my opinion, a brilliant film and an entertaining series to read. However, the former is based so loosely on the latter that I wonder why they even bother with the same title at all. Seriously, the only thing the film shares with the originals are the names (except for Astrid, who replaces Kamikaze), not even the characters have the same character (or characteristics, for that matter). They didn't even give the sequel a similar title that the book series did (I.E., How to X a YZ), they just called the movie 'How to Train Your Dragon 2'.

(Btw, when you say we can talk about manga adaption, do you only mean those live-action shows, or are normal anime ok too?)

This makes me wonder, actually...

I spent last year (and half the year before that) running a review blog for The Batman, which has since fallen into hiatus. Would anyone be particularly averse to me reposting at least some of those reviews (cleaned up for general consumption, of course) here?

Who knows, it might even motivate me into starting the series back up...

I enjoyed reading your blog, so I wouldn't really mind (but only if you really want to).

The first review was reasonably interesting, considering I don't care for Bats and still haven't gotten around to watching most superhero related cartoons. Since the problem with blogs is that you don't feel motivated to find them again in our busy busy days, and there is all the other stuff on the internet to look at, I think reposting reviews occasionally seems like a good idea. I'd go with once a week to not burnout interest.

If this is a weekly post then it is sound OK but...
It will never be a primary focus on scans_daily (the clue being in the name of course)

be careful ... remember Comic book resources.

I know we are in the golden time for comic book adaptations but i do feel sad when i see comics themselves take a back seat in what was once a comics relates sites and areas.

CBR is pretty unreadable. I've removed it from my favourites bar; it's not even good for previews or solicits any more.

but the main site wasn't my thing anyway, I liked the "Comics should be good" and "Robot 6" blogs and they are gone now.

Man, lego Batman was AWESOME. It was the Batman movie I've been wanting for years. I loved how they made everything canon... and I had to tell me wife 'Yes, those actually are all real batman villains."
