The only way the "HE DID IT, HE KILLED THE MAYOR" bit works is if we find out that the cops are part of the League of Shadows too.

Also, how many mayors does Gotham City go through? I'm pretty sure this isn't the first dead mayor I've seen in the past couple of years (Did one of them get killed in the Court of Owls thing?)

No. I believe the mayor did survive in Court of Owls. Several other people however...

Not knowing the context of the story, I had assumed the scene took place during Year One, when Batman's reputation and cooperation with the police had yet to become established.

But then the next pages take place in the present and I realize that, no, those are just Gotham's stupidest cops, probably drunk and on drugs and sleep deprived.

Or they're transfers from the Marvel Universe...

I ws thinking today, my first dip back into modern Batman was War Games (I enjoyed it, I never read Batman telling Spoiler she was a real Robin as dishonest in the end, War Crimes was dumb, and Urban Legend Bats stupid, who came up with that?), and I would have relly liked to see Onyx and Orpheus as the Bats allies again, I mean did War Games even happen anymore? Surely thry could easily return.

Urban Legend Bats started with Zero Hour, or actually Zero Month. It didn't make much sense.

Wait...but...what?

I don't get it. The League of Shadows is Ra's Al Ghul's personal assassination group. Damian is the child of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul. Damian was raised in part by the League of Shadows. Batman knows this. He knows about the League by the time all of these other characters take up their various mantles.

How on earth do they justify him NOT knowing about the League of Shadows or Ra's Al Ghul in this story?

Unless they've retconned some things, the organization of Ra's al Ghul is the League of Assassins. In the comics they've never been the League of Shadows (that was the movies). So the comics seems to be presenting the League of Shadows as a new organization separate from the League of Assassins.

If they exist at all.

But it's nice to see Batman at least acknowledging the possibility he might be wrong.

Less nice to see that cops in Gotham don't give the freakin' Batman the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, after all these years (I assume this isn't at the start of his career), the Gotham cops don't figure something's fishy there with it looking like Batman murdered the mayor? Sheesh!

So, the League of Shadows isn't the League of Assassins. Check.

I'm still asking the question: WHY would anyone live in Gotham City?!

Gothamites are really stubborn.

Really, really stubborn.

There must be a Joker clause in the lease somewhere.

There was a reference in this issue to Kate meeting Superman and I'm desperate to find out what that refers to. That's kind of a big deal. Maggie's in Metropolis, after all...

And Kate being a baseball fan in the main universe now is a nice hat-tip to Bombshells, especially with Bennett on her series.

I like the LoS's MO. it explains how they've stayed hidden.

Star Trek does this a few times. The Voyager episode "The Voyager Conspiracy." On Deep Space Nine, Bashir speculated that Luther Sloan heard about the legend of Section 31 and started his own.
