Mike "Ringo" Wieringo is an artist we lost far too soon, and whose crips, clean work I always enjoyed; The Flash (Where, along with Mark Waid, he created Impulse), Spider-Man, Superman, Robin, The Fantastic Four and many others.

I am far from alone in that opinion of him. Mike was an incredibly popular creator, for his work, his mentoring of other artists and just generally being a thoroughly decent human being. (Ten years after his death, his DeviantArt account is still maintained at Core level by the donation of fans)

Tellos was one of his "labour of love" works, with Todd Dezago, a high fantasy adventure series...

Over the past couple of years a letter was distributed amongst artists at various conventions and sent to Ringo's colleagues and friends.

Hi!

My name is Todd Dezago. I write comics.

I’m known mostly for Spider-Man. I’ve written a lot of Spider-Man and, back in the late 90s, I was fortunate enough to be paired with Mike Wieringo, a very talented artist and an incredibly nice guy. We became great friends.

After working on Sensational Spider-Man for several years, Mike and I co-created our own independent book, Tellos—a high-adventure, fantasy series we published through Image. It ran for ten issues and got fairly good reviews. We always hoped that one day we would be able to re-visit our favorite collaboration.

Sadly and suddenly, however, Mike passed away in 2007 from an unknown heart condition.

The question I have been continually asked since is, “Will there be more Tellos?”

My answer is always, “I’d like there to be.”

…but it just wouldn’t be the same without Mike…

Unless…

…unless it was a tribute, a celebration of Mike, with artwork contributed by some of the top artists in the industry; friends, fans, and heroes of Mike’s, with all the proceeds donated to the ASPCA in Mike’s name, an organization very dear to both of us.

So, I have written a nearly 300 page Tellos adventure—a sequel to our original tale—and production is underway. Artwork is continually coming in—all of it stunning—and we are already nearly halfway done~! It would mean so much if you would consider contributing a page or two. Every name we add to our list of contributors means more attention for our project and, hopefully, more money for the cats and dogs.

We are doing our best to keep this a secret, so we would appreciate your discretion in that matter. If anyone asks, deny everything.
That’s it. That’s my pitch.

I hope you can join us; it’s turning out to be quite a thing.

Thanks so much for your time.
And your consideration.

Best~

todd

And so it came to pass...

So it is intensely gratifying that ten years after his death, a massive now 500 page Tellos tribute story is tio be published across two volumes, with all proceeeds gogin to the ASPCA.

And when I say that artists were queuing up to contribute to this, I'm not even remotely joking.

This is the artists list for Book one.... (Takes deep breath)

These will only be printed in the number ordered by the cut off dates, so this will be a one time only deal. And as noted, all proceeds going to charity.

It's pricey, but I confess I'm tempted by this one.... Aside from the Tellos story being a fun romp in it;'s right, just the sheer numbe of different art styles would be fascinating to see telling the same story. (And I'm not even going to TRY to tag that list!!).
