From: [personal profile] jmacq1 the semi-new continuity, Shiva is still Cassandra's mother, and a much younger (compared to his old self) David Cain is her father? Were they barely more than teenagers when they conceived her? Of course Shiva's age has always been a little hard to pin down.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I like the return to the old status quo for Cassandra, and I especially like Shiva schooling Bruce.

Back in the New 52 Nightwing series, Shiva was implied to be significantly older than she looked, despite appearing to be around Dick's age. And David Cain seemed to be in his late 30s to me. Cass is only about 16 at most.

I wish I could like this story. But its premise is "when Gotham cops find Batman next to a murder victim, they immediately jump to the conclusion that Batman did it." Not just a handful of especially stupid cops at that, but the entire department. And not just at any random moment either, but right in the middle of Joker's assault on the city, when even IF I could buy that virtually all the cops think that superheroes are villains (and I don't), I would still expect them to give a temporary pass to the only guy who has a history of stopping Joker's plans.

It's like Robin Wars all over again. A story that could be fun, engaging and interesting, but is spoiled because DC citizens act in ways even Marvel citizens would find irrational.

Given still the sheer number of Gotham cops who have died by the Joker's hands, I could see maybe an irrational cabal of cops looking for any excuse for revenge on Bats.

I don't get it. Batman routinely stops, beats up and captures the guy who murders cops whenever he is free, and cops want revenge on Batman? Shouldn't they think of him as some kind of patron saint? Even if Batman himself always takes Joker alive, by capturing him he is at least keeping the damage down to a minimum. And it would be easier for a fed-up cop to "accidentally" shoot Joker while in custody rather than while he is rampaging.

It's a question of perspective. Some probably view it the way you describe...but others could take a different view. First, Batman makes them look bad by succeeding where they fail. For some cops, he hurts their pride, undermines the public's confidence in them and isn't bound by the rules they are. Second, by always taking him alive, they may view him as being at least partly responsible for the Joker's actions...especially since HE won't suffer consequences for breaking the law in the way they would. He's already flaunting the law as a vigilante; some might be angry that he isn't willing to carry his mission to, at least for them, is the logical conclusion of executioner.

Huh, I'm surprised that the bridges and other ways out of town aren't jammed with people fleeing Gotham every week.

Cops either would dislike Batman because they'd think he was showing them up, or they would be behind him 100% because he beats up criminals (which they're not supposed to do officially) and has saved their bacon multiple times and is a law-and-order kind of guy. Maybe this time around the Joker's toxin creates irrational thinking, sheesh!

Kate and Renee are exes, but are amicable about it and seem to still love each other. Maggie was transferred back to Metropolis, and her status in regards to Kate post-breakup hasn't really been touched on. Kate hasn't mentioned Maggie at all, and Maggie had a single panel in an issue of Superwoman or something where she recalled Kate and seemed sad rather than angry.
