[personal profile] lordultimus posting in [community profile] scans_daily

Warren Ellis: STORMWATCH was an episodic procedural in a lot of ways, and AUTHORITY was a pure action comic, so I wanted to find a different way in, this time, and this is what I decided on. Every six issues is a short book, and The Wild Storm is a four-book series -- 24 issues/chapters.

Two issues in and this is shaping up into something big and neat.

I think you'll have to trim pages in this post though, lordultimus. First, you've posted ten pages, and this is a standard 22-pager. Second, I already posted a few pages when the issue first came out.

Polonium...? Radiation poisoning doesn't work like chemical poisoning-! But I suppose that's the joke ^^

So, is this old continuity, DC continuity or some new continuity that's similar to old continuity but different in places?

This is a complete standalone reboot. It's not tied into whatever the status of DC's Rebuttonmultimanhattanbirthverse is currently. It's just Warren Ellis rebuilding the Wildstorm universe and its characters from scratch as its own separate imprint from DC.

"It's just Warren Ellis" would suffice as a pretty apt summation as it is.

Not, I hasten to add, that there's anything *wrong* with it being "just Warren Ellis". :)

Well, that goes without saying, don't it?

Despite some odd faces, John Davis-Hunt is super-impressive. Usually having that many panels dense with fore-mid-backgrounds will make the artist want to kill you. But he manages to compose a lot of these sequences artfully. Even the boardroom talking-head sequences, which are usually the dullest thing ever in comics.

Which I guess is another reason why this comic reminds me of Watchmen.
