Rock/paper/scissors? Betsy's a psychic assassin, she can take down pretty tough targets. Medusa's hair is very good against agile targets.

Based on these scans he intended to lose so that he could fake his death.

All he had to do was be as arrogant and sloppy as possible to ensure his "defeat."

The Medusa fight was jobbing at its finest. Medusa's power is essentially telekinesis that's limited to her hair. Psylocke has a much stronger and more versatile form of TK, plus telepathy, plus ninja training.

Where's Magneto at alignment-wise right now? Recently he's largely been more-or-less heroic (if viewed with suspicion), but by Betsy's comments and actions make it seem like he's being viewed more villainously again? Or is that based more on his old actions/people's fear of him?

Also, Elixir's alive again?

Also also, Exodus? Hey Exodus, haven't seen you in awhile! Are you relevant? Or just showing up for a brief cameo before vanishing again?

Considering how they treated Cyclops like the antichrist, Magneto has little hope of not really being seen as a villain.

Elixir resurrected himself in the Uncanny X-Men Annual. Apparently his powers have evolved to the point where he just doesn't really stay dead. His death touch was out of control again when he came back so Magneto's X-men sent him to train with Xorn

Exodus was the big bad of an earlier arc of Uncanny X-Men. Magneto's team and the Hellfire Club took down his plot and Magneto nearly killed him but spared his life so that he could consolidate more power

Hasn't he been a good guy (good enough) since Astonishing 1? Post-Xorneto, post-Jean's death?

I don't even know when that was.

He turned out to be the shadowy puppet master behind those radical mutant attacks last year, and lost a pitched one-on-one battle with Magneto.

They seem to believe generating fan outrage leads to sales. Which honestly it does though it doesn't seem to work long term since the sales boost starts wearing off in a month or so unless it is a concept that really really angers people.

It honestly just seems to be a thing marvel does now just like the constant events that marvel and dc use to push up sales once or twice a year.

If Betsy's telekinesis can cut Erik like that, couldn't she kill him (or anyone else without durability powers) at any time, so long as they're within range of her TK? She's just telekinetically shoving the flesh aside to make a hole, right?

Date: 2017-03-15 08:03 pm (UTC)

Her telekinetic katana is the focused totality of her psychic power. It's like her telekinesis concentrated to a single point, so that could explain why it can cut things that her telekinesis usually couldn't hurt.

Most writers don't have her using her telekinesis like she did in this issue anyways. They mostly forget she even has it, focusing more on her telepathy and using a physical sword

Also, who would buy him actually being dead? How many times has he survived being exploded? I wouldn't be surprised if the other X-Men didn't chew Psylocke out for just leaving his body there. Even if he were dead, god knows what some villain could do with that.

Okay, I haven't been keeping track. Why does Psylocke kill Magneto?

Date: 2017-03-15 11:24 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] long_silence
Psylocke joined this X-men team to keep an eye on Magneto to make sure he didn't cross the line

But things became increasingly tense between them.
First Magneto was willing to attack the Inhumans to kidnap Ulysses because he didn't want them to have a powerful precog as a weapon, so Betsy teamed with Storm's X-men to prevent an all out war.
Next she found out that he was a King in the Hellfire Club again and hadn't told her that was where he was getting a good deal of his intel and resources.
And she found out that he'd been utilizing Mystique and Fantomex as field agents. And she hasn't exactly had a pleasant history with Fantomex.
And then Magneto forced her to delve in the mind of a mutant sleeper agent to find out who had been controlling him and other mutants who had chosen to get cryogenically frozen so that they could avoid the Terrigen mists. Betsy stopped because she thought with the psychic defenses implanted in him that further intrusion might kill the sleeper agent. Magneto then had Monet finish the job and apparently killed that mutant.
So she quit his team, but mostly because of the secrets he'd been keeping from her. And had been keeping an eye on his activities.

And now she seems to be blaming Magneto for working with Emma in the recent conflict with the Inhumans.
I mean so did Psylocke but apparently Magneto's worse

I think the key elements here for Betsy were. A.) Basically, her and Erik using Warren as a weapon for them instead of helping him. B.) Erik going behind her back pulling Hellfire Club and Brotherhood shenanigans to preserve their race or "statements" (aka attacking Inhumans or completely destroying Genosha). C.) Making the team more X-Forcy, and more a kill squad. Every villain that opposed them save Exodus and Emplate gets brutally killed by the team. D.) Getting M to join the Club and take a more darker path.

Basically, everyone in this comic went down a darker path. Yes, Sabretooth is still the same inverted personality. But M is feeding off him now with her Emplate powers. Xorn is on the moon for fear of unleashing his powers lethally. Fantomax is becoming even more evil. Elixir after dying went down a dark path killing and resurrecting his murderer.
