... Huh.
Wasn't expecting that to be the answer of where he came from.
Kind of random...
Though pretty much any explanation was going to have to be random, really.

(Oh, and hey, an attempting at explaining Earth-3's Volthoom.
Which still doesn't explain anything.
... man, trying to explain the stuff Johns didn't is almost a growth industry, huh.)

According to research, Earth-15 was originally a near-Utopian world where superheroes had evolved to their ultimate potentials and eradicated crime, before Superboy-Prime destroyed it; in the New-52 multiverse, it was a planet devoid of life.

So um... where did Volthoom and his future society come from?

Also: Earth-17 is basically post-apocalyptic Great Disaster Earth, with the Atomic Knights, as seen in that pic.
Earth-47 is home to the Love Syndicate as once seen in the Grant Morrison run of Animal Man, and Prez Rickard. So the bit about making music seems appropriate.
Earth-03 is, of course, home to the Crime Syndicate in whatever form they're taking these days... assuming it's not destroyed (this week).

I love that Volthoom, listening to Brother Power there make music, looks like he's thinking " I don't know what a Crime Syndicate is, but I want one, and I want them to raze this entire world to nothing. "

Actually, in the New-52 multiverse, Earth-15 never existed.
Because Superboy-Prime murdered the ever-loving **** out of the previous version, it stayed destroyed even after the reboot.

Which, really, makes Volthoom's origin even more inexplicable and baffling...

(Though there was that throwaway bit from Multiversity saying one tiny bit of it had survived, and it was a macguffin. Maybe someone will use it to restore Earth-15 at some point in a future that won't happen because of the next rejig.)

Huh, that throwaway macguffin from multiversity actually looks just like the Travel Lantern. And it's suppose to be somewhere in the multiverse, which the travel lantern lets people travel through.

Didn't the New-52 thing only affect the continuity of New Earth/Earth-0, with the other 51 parallel universes having their own separate internal timelines?

The guy's backstory seems kind of pointlessly complex.

Would Earth-3's Mordru be a hero, or is he the same one from New Earth?

Ah, but this is the New-52, Johnsized Earth-3, where there is no good, only evil and slightly different evil.

Were the Guardians even Guardians ten billion years ago? I thought they didn't start the whole policing the universe thing until well after Krona's experiment.

They were trying to police the universe before Krona went all mad and evil, since they had the Manhunters around at the time.
So, yes.
Krona's being a Mad Scientist was what got him kicked out of being a Guardian.
That, and the whole "genocide to prove a point" thing.

Thank you, Johns!

From what I recall, Krona looking at the big bang was what kicked off the GL corps and Guardians. I guess that wasn't bloody enough for Johns

Well, according to Johns, Krona did get into trouble for looking at the Big Bang... which also summoned Volthoom.
So Krona was around after the Guardians got started, got into trouble with them, ran off, proved the Manhunters were a Bad Idea, and that led to the Green Lanterns.

Johns got to indulge his desire to retcon everything in sight, and his lust for violence!

Will Volthoom get into a chat with Hank Henshaw?
