"[Sam Wilson] is by far the most nervewracking assignment I've ever had, because I constantly worry I'm getting something wrong (and I'm sure I have). But it's been worth it." -- Nick Spencer

More nerve-wracking than writing Hydra Cap? That's surprising.

He seems a lot more aware why this one makes people sensitive than that one.

It's not that he's unaware of why people're reacting to his Steve Rogers the way they are, it's that he sees those reactions as reacting to challenging complexity with a call for soothing simplicity: " Nearly all the stories we herald as classics challenged the characters and the audience more than [giving them an easily defined villain to be defeated].

'Story as comfort food' is an incredibly dangerous road to go down.

Weird then that he's also arguing that Hydra has no ties with Nazis, and it's just a generic supervillain world-domination group.

Whelp, this continues to be depressing. Has Sam accomplished anything since becoming Captain America? Or has everything he's done been doomed to fail?

I remember him doing stuff in Captain America and the Mighty Avengers and his other team books.

There is some problem books sometimes get of being just about 'the trials of (hero)/(hero's group)' and not giving them enough heroing. And these types of stories can be quite important, just, y'know, mixing it up a bit would be good.

Sam as Cap in the team book I would say is very good (or at least not as grating as this).

That reminds me of a joke Grant Morrison had back when he wrote Animal Man. Animal Man met Grant Morrison in a fourth wall breaking scene and Morrison explained how different AM's life was when he was written by somebody else. AM then said he noticed how when he was with the Justice League he seemed pretty ineffective, which was at the time written by Keith Giffen, who had no clue whatsoever how to write Animal Man.

Pretty weird that this is all taking place over a guy being unfairly convicted of robbing a pawn shop, as opposed to, y'know, the real-life referent. I've never known a comic book to make a topical issue less dramatic.

I hate to be that guy but... Bendis did something like this already and kind of better.

But anyways, I just don't care. Everything I read this, it just feels like a miserable book desperately trying to be relevant.

I love Rage, he's definitely in my top 5, but damn Marvel, can we get the brotha a better costume? This is his third costume since his first appearance, if im not mistaken, and they all seem a little uninspired. Superhero or not, nobody from Brooklyn is wearing that get up

Maybe he is wearing it ironically, sounds more Brooklyn then.

I'm betting that Rage is the new 'Patriot' they recently revealed. Personally don't really like that costume, but I think it's slightly better.
