Priest to do The Inhumans justice

Priest: "I was actually surprised and challenged when Marvel offered me the project. I see this series as part of a bigger and more complex overall history. As I see it, we can either bore people to death by trying to be too much, or we can go the “Rogue One” route and tell a fun story which embellishes key points of their origin."

Christopher Priest is returning to Marvel in order to cover The Inhuman family.
Recently, Marvel has tried to push the family with several titles. But it has been so and so. So I'm glad to see Priest getting a shot at the Royal family and I hope we finally get to see Black Bolt like he was back-in-the-good-old-days of Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Roy Thomas.

(BTW, huge error in the interview. Priest last work for Marvel was a back-up story in Deadpool no.27)

Well, the Unspoken's exile more or less needs to be redone in order to make Black Bolt and company look like the good guys in that conflict.

Priest actually says the Unspoken was a good king here.

Yeah, but good king does not rule out morally complex villain.

He acknowledges that Black Bolt overthrew him for wanting to destroy the slave engine, so I don't think he's going to whitewash anything.

" A young Black Bolt challenges [the-then-not-Unspoken's] thinking as regards to the semi-slavery imposed upon the Alpha Primitives. "

Dramatic irony's a hell of a thing.

Oh hey they're actually acknowledging the genetically engineered slave race that the Inhumans used to have.

They acknowledged them in Inhumans Prime, as an example of their traditions being toxic.

Al Ewing's Inhumans good has been good too. I'd say he's been doing them justice as well.

But it is great to see Christopher Priest on this Inhumans mini series and it does sound really exciting.

Nice, this could be cool!

I don't dislike the Inhumans, just the conflict they forced them into with the X-men and the blatant attempts to make the X-men (or Emma and Scott specifically) look bad. That's over with, so I can enjoy them again.

[personal profile] long_silence 2017-04-20 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well its not entirely over. The Secret Warriors are fighting Emma's new team in their second issue
lordultimus: (Default)

[personal profile] lordultimus 2017-04-20 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, Emma now is that bad. The problem is that she was railroaded into it for dumb reasons, and is acting like a cartoon villain a la Grant Morrison's Magneto, which is just as big a disservice to her but there appears to be no Xorn retcon coming up.

Also her costume is the worst she's ever had, which is saying something.

[personal profile] long_silence 2017-04-20 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey Emma's still punching Nazis and keeping them out of Mutant controlled territory. Could turn out to be like Cyclops where in spite of all attempts to assassinate her character her actions turn out more justified than ever.

There is some completely inexplicable civilian inhuman attacking. So, it's gotta be mind control, time travel, evil twin, or whatever.

[personal profile] long_silence 2017-04-20 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Completely faceless and nameless Inhumans got shot down out of the sky. Wow.

We didn't see any bodies, we have no idea how many people were on those ships. They may as well have been empty

Honestly non Nazi Steve Rogers has killed more

Really splitting hairs there.

[personal profile] q99 2017-04-21 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hm... no bodies?

Ah, we can have her secretly evacuating them. It was all a ploy to frighten the inhumans!... or something.

There were bodies and we did get a number later.

When was this?
lordultimus: (Default)

[personal profile] lordultimus 2017-04-20 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope so, but judging by solicitations, I can't help but think that particular issue is going to try and show the Secret Empire as also accomplishing good by going after "villains".

Add that to her Inhuman civilian killing Sentinels, as well as how she's described in an X-Men Blue solicit, and I'm not feeling too optimistic.

Probably shouldn't celebrate until we see the issue though. Might end up being a double down on Evil Emma.

Reeeally hope they come up with a Xorn-esque retcon fast.

-Also her costume is the worst she's ever had, which is saying something.-

It's not even bad in her particular style of bad costumes.

[personal profile] long_silence 2017-04-20 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's the helmet that bothers most people
q99: (Default)

[personal profile] q99 2017-04-21 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
The helmet is awful, but toss in the spikes too. Emma has never been a spikey type- that's a Malice or Rachel Summers thing.
mastermahan: (Default)

[personal profile] mastermahan 2017-04-21 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
The helmet/spikes combination makes it look like she's cosplaying Penance.

Which is appropriate in terms of the fandom reaction.

He really is. And has been since even before Royals, I'd argue. He wrote Civil War II: Ulysses.

Ohh, SHIT.

Anyway, I'm going to offer the same sentiments I did when Charles Soule ended his run on Swamp Thing: thank you and well wishes to the writer, strap in for the readers. Guy's a hell of a talent.

Recent? Don't you mean current? It's still ongoing, and it's good stuff.

I assumed with the announcement he was leaving DC.

[personal profile] aperturedreams 2017-04-22 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
He's starting a new arc in July so that seems rather unlikely.
zapbiffpow: (Default)

[personal profile] zapbiffpow 2017-04-21 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
I guess me and tigerkaya had the same assumption. What's the news on that? Is Priest doing this on a free-agent capacity, or is Marvel signing him to an exclusive contract?
laughing_tree: (Default)

[personal profile] laughing_tree 2017-04-21 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. I guess writers working for both companies really is rare these days. Was a time it was practically commonplace.

But there are still some who do, like Marguerite Bennett. And there's been no word about signing him to an exclusive contract, so I saw no reason to assume he'd depart DEATHSTROKE.

[personal profile] tigerkaya 2017-04-22 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Surprisingly it's a common thing Chris Yost was still working for Marvel while writing his Red Robin run.

Like I said, it used to practically be the norm.

He's not exclusive and he's still on Deathstroke. Besides, his Inhumans book is a mini series.

[personal profile] zapbiffpow 2017-04-22 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so it is! I'll let Priest keep the thanks, in any case - he's done DC enough right to have earned it, anyway.
