Okay, silly as it might be, I love Sam flying around with a baby like that.

It is cute, but I'm not so sure about the doing-it-while-crimefighting thing. Even if the baby's tougher than Sam, superguys suddenly discover that they're only nigh-invulnerable on a regular basis.

Plus, the baby is watching his parents beat people up and explode vehicles at point-blank range. I'm pretty sure that's not great for his psychological development, no matter how comic-booky the violence is!

I'm sure the Xavier Institute has special courses for casual child endangerment. Just look at Jubilee's parenting style, or MainU!Scott&Jean's.

Yeah, considering that they used to take baby Nathan-Cable-to-be into battle with X-Factor BEFORE he developed his TK force bubble, and Beast used to make jokes about them doing so because they were trying to have the youngest superhero on their team (and they now had even Power Pack beat) this seems par for the course.

Xavier probably just mindwipes the baby.

Oh hey, someone remembered Smasher existed...

Assuming that Josiah's powers work similarly to Sam's, wouldn't he need to consciously activate his blast field?

No guarantee that they would work similarly... I'm more surprised that they're active at all at that age.

[personal profile] long_silence 2017-05-18 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
But if they don't work similarly then is Josiah's blastfield just on 24/7? And if so how does anyone ever touch him?
Or does it subconsciously activate when he might be in danger? Because that still seems like it would need a conscious understanding of what is dangerous.
They both just seem rather blase about using their toddler as a human shield like that

We saw that he had powers back in Hickman's run so I guess he's just one of those mutants who's had powers since birth.

"My mother's smile. My daddy's grave. My sister's bouts with insanity. My kid brother's grave. My other sister who could fly that no one seems to remember anymore. Those rednecks in power armor that hate my family. Hot dogs and baseball..."

I like how they all started out with "J" names, as if Claremont could see into the future and anticipated "19 Kids and Counting".

... actually "19 Guthries and Counting" would be an amazing show.

I like the "Jay and Miles" suggestion, that the Guthrie home is a sort of dimensional nexus for some reason (a bit like Excalibur's old lighthouse), and parallel universe Guthries just phase in and out all the time, and all the alt-Guthries are so used to it that they just feed and house whichever ones are passing through at the time, confident that the same is being done for any of their own brood who are "visiting" elsewhere. :)

Taking a baby into battle would be weird... if X-Factor didn't do it all the time with baby Nathan Christopher/future Cable. Cannonball is just following in the X-tradition. (A great running gag on Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men is when they call out Cyclops and Jean for this blatant child endangerment.)
