"I have a reputation around the offices for an intense and very detailed love of DC Comics characters. Pitching characters that editors haven’t heard of in years and years that haven’t appeared in decades and decades. That sort of rich love of the DC Universe is why they thought of me for JLA. It’s a book that pulls together a diverse array of characters and interests and settings and explores the wonder and awe of the DCU. That’s the way I feel about the characters and the company." - Steve Orlando

I'm torn on Rebirth Ryan.

Ryan's back, and not dead! Yay!

He's inherited Legends of Tomorrow's silly "We couldn't get Blue Beetle so we're making Atom into Iron Man" suit.

I don't mind the suit. Having armor on a grad student who has zero combat experience just makes sense. And a helmet so that he can have an oxygen supply when he shrinks smaller than an O2 molecule is pretty reasonable.

And it helps that I don't think he's been shooting repulsor blasts like Legends' Atom.

Agreed, a scientist needs equipment. In my opinion, the arrowverse atom and this atom makes more sense then the original comic book atom, the original was pretty ridiculous when you think about their origins. Scientists don't go exploring volcanoes, places with dangerous radiation and other dangerous areas in a spandex suit. They wear environmental protection equipment when they need to, taking the tools needed to do what they need to do.

Holee shit someone besides me remembers Terrorsmith! He was my favorite New Blood, or whatever they called them, but he was only ever in his own origin story...

I'd like to see this happen more often, older heroes and villains dusted off and given new life. While some might seem lame (I'm reminded of some eXtreeeeeeeme! Marvel mutant who could ignite your blood) now, I think when handled properly-like Terrorsmith was-they could find new fans.

I think most of the villains the JLA has faced in this series have been older forgotten characters. Lord Havok and the Extemists, Aegeus, and Terrorsmith. Roxy Rocket had a cameo in an early issue.

An excellent point. I remember The Extremists, but was unaware Aegeus was an older villain. I think I missed Roxy Rocket, though.

Lord Havok and the Extremists showed up recently, in a Convergence fight issue.

I have really been surprised how good this roster and run of Justice League of America has been. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite books.

I like the "changes" they have made to the Atom with the suit and all. It does make sense and helps give Ryan something to distinguish himself from Ray Palmer.

Also using older, lesser known villains has been a smart choice. It gives an unpredictability you need.

My favorite part of this series has been the Ray. I would really like to see him take a more central role in an upcoming storyline. He has been written well and I like the subtle changes to his suit. I also think he is the kind of hero who is often underappreciated because he is so unassuming but the upper limits of his powers can make him a beast.

Why am I not buying this? Orlando is NAILING this. I'm impressed how good this is. Interesting characters doing interesting things, with character arcs and emotions and intelligence.

And they brought Ryan back and managed to make him fun again.

I'm going to pick these up. I like these a LOT.
