Just wait until we get the Messiah on the television series. Heh. I'm sure that will go well.

The TV series' adaptations of characters so far've been tangential to but respectful of the originals.

If we do get the Messiah, and he is off, it'll probably be in an entirely different but familiar way.

As long as he says "Humperdumperdoo" at least once, I'm good.

Wait... wasn't that on South Park first? I mean... I think they came up with "Derp" or is just a random dumb word like "DUH"

Given how AMC toned down 80% of The Walking Dead I doubt they'll go as far with Preacher.

How is the series? Haven't been keeping up. How far along are they?

They've just introduced Herr K Starr, but the TV show deviated quite a bit so it's a little hard to compare. They've also just this season started to search for God, so I guess vaguely they're at either the second or third volume the series, probably rearranging some of the different threads a bit. They haven't really covered Jesse's family backstory much yet.

Historian Ken Mondschein, critiquing the book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, which was an influence on Ennis's Grail plotline (and, later, The Da Vinci Code):

"The idea of keeping the [Jesus] family tree pruned to bonsai-like proportions is also completely fallacious. Infant mortality in pre-modern times was ridiculously high, and you'd only need one childhood accident or disease in 2000 years to wipe out the bloodline; if, however, even one extra sibling per generation survived to reproduce, the numbers of descendants would increase at an exponential rate; keep the children of Christ marrying each other, on the other hand, and eventually they'd be so inbred that the sons of God would have flippers for feet."

If we're going to start critiquing The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, we might need a bigger internet.

Wait Wait the whole punchline of the DaVinci Code wasn't an asspull? This was a notion someone else pulled up?

Not only that, but the writers of "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" sued Dan Brown for ripping them off. They lost, largely because they'd published their book as nonfiction, meaning that Brown was able to claim that using their ideas was legitimate research.

I love it how Ennis picked up the stupid idea of The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail and made something hilarious out of it.

Is it wrong that I hear Starr's dialogue in the voice of Christoph Waltz?

He'd be a perfect actor for Starr, if they ever made a movie... and Tarantino directed it. I can see Waltz getting his 3rd Oscar.

The panel with the kid "blessing" the flowers, as well as the general description of his character, was one of the first windows of "mature" comics I came across... and only NOW have I read ANYTHING about him...

And really, they tried to steal from Monty Python's Mr Creosote skit? I mean... the guy has a dozen people to carry and walk him... but doesn't have a barf-bucket?
