Okay... wasn't it kind of a point of Rucka's run on Wonder Woman, the one that just ended, that she was out of contact with the gods most of the time?

Also, that Batjet having a little capture claw is just adorable.
It's like Batman saw one of the many ridiculous toys made of him and thought "hey, that's a pretty cool idea..."
(What's next? A batsuit with a little shoulder gun that shoots nets over people?)

Honestly, am I the only one who thinks that The Joker just doesn't work in stories like this? He's pretty much a street level character, whose sole ability is "I can kill a bunch of people."
It just feels off to see him in stories where the entire cosmos is in danger.

Well that answer is simple, money. Same with Marvel shoving Deadpool everywhere as if he's relevant when he should stick to Mercenary genre stories.

The answer to "does the joker feel off in this story?" Is "money"?
...
...
Also no. Deadpool makes more sense than joker.

To be fair to Deadpool, one of his superpowers is literally Genre Savviness and fourth wall breaking, so branching out is far more acceptable in his case.

So does the Joker, who we saw in that year long story with Luthor just before Flashpoint is insane partly because he's aware that the universe he is in is someone else's narrative.

Should that really be counted, though? Sounds like an outlier to me.

Lord, do I miss the days when Batman just fought Street gangs, Mobsters, and the occasional Ninja/Military trained baddie....and don't get me started on this hocus pocus version of Joker.

Didn't he fight a rainbow monster once?

In the '50s and '60s, shit got -weird- before it got realistic again.
Of course, Grant Morrison's view is that it all happened, somehow. The realistic, the grim, the weird, the bizarre, the silly...

I don't see anything wrong with embracing the entirety of the continuity in some form or another.

Have they resolved/mentioned the "3 Different Jokers" bit again?

[personal profile] long_silence 2017-07-15 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
They referenced it a bit in this issue.

Hal mentioned to Bats that this might not even be the real Joker

Is there ANYONE who really feels that what DC needs right now is another cosmic crisis?

We've just had Rebirth sorting out some of the less popular parts of New52 without anything in the way of an event being required.

This is just... please no, stop this before it gets universe dooming.

this one actually seems cool. I DON'T like however that Batman seems like he's the intended badguy... I am hoping it's a misdirect.

I don't think Batman's intended to be the bad guy. Rather I think that the antagonist is this dark, primordial Bat "entity" they keep alluding to throughout. It might be a straight-up connection to Grant Morrison's Hyper-Adapter in fact.

So the Bat-entity is like this fundamental fear of the thing with wings that soars through the dark nights. And Bruce Wayne inadvertently co-opted the bat identity in becoming Batman and using that primordial fear of the dark to become a force for good. Now this ancient, Lovecraftian THING is out to reclaim the mantle of the Bat.

I don't think Dark Days is a crisis like we're used to.

From what I've seen of previews and writer interviews and whatnot, it looks like we'll be going into a parallel universe for the main conflict.

So hopefully the event will be bereft of the continuity-twisting, "THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING" nonsense and be more like the Mirror Universe from Star Trek. A traipse into the looking glass before returning to the stable ground of normal continuity.
