Man, Steve Dillon really saved himself some time with these mirror sequences.

When an obsessive man changes his obsessions, it's never pretty. And mark my words, Starr has always been obsessive in his goals.

So plastic surgery isn't an option?

More of an "I'm in a hurry, plastic surgery will have to wait" option. Mixed with the "MUST KILL JESSE CUSTER!" option.

Or heck, getting an additional scar. Two lines no longer resembles anything.

Some of the best Cassidy characterization here. He's transparent to us, but it's clear why Jesse doesn't put it together and why Tulip reluctantly lets it lie. What he's shown us is clearly a real trouble sign and not just some humanizing flaw or moment of weakness to be ignored... and yet we still want to like him.

If only Jesse had said he wanted to screw Amy, or not said, "yeah, I am a one-woman man," or not said it so convincingly... if only there was the slightest room for Cassidy to think Jesse and Tulip weren't married in all but name, then Cass could convince himself that making a pass at Tulip wasn't such a bad thing. But if they weren't so happy together, Cassidy wouldn't be jealous of what they had in the first place.

As it is, the (justified) guilt threatens to drown Cassidy, so he latches on to the idea of violently defending Jesse's honor, the only way he can maybe prove to himself that he's not a traitor. It doesn't really work.

Of course, he could try actually confessing, swearing never to do it again, and asking his friends to help him stay on the straight and narrow... or, more accurately, someone else in his situation could try doing that. But that would mean trusting Jesse to forgive his sin, and shattering the illusions of the one living man on Earth who thinks he's just "a good egg." The irony is that Jesse WOULD forgive, and Tulip would manage something like grudging forgiveness, if the issue were confessed and addressed here. But it's far easier to keep it from Jesse and tell himself that nothing like this will ever happen again... and do the same the next time and the next, until the sin has grown past the point of forgiveness.
