This is from MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #24, and an early story by Scott Lobdell with art by Dennis Jensen. Shamrock, aka Molly Fitzgerald, vs. Arnim Zola.
I wanted to repost it since it seems to equate "With great power comes great responsibility" to "Must punch bad guys in the face."

Molly returns home after the death of her brother. Her father, mad about the death and his daughter being a peace-loving teacher, drugs her tea and brings her to Arnim Zola.

This was the first time I'd ever seen Arnim Zola. It was pretty trippy. Still is, although he's less "Max Headroom" in most stories. (Hey, the guy transferred the Red Skull's mind into a cloned body of Steve Rogers! Dude has skills.)

Zola wants to transfer Molly's "good luck" powers to her father. But first he has to see how they work. And then...

Molly is a conduit for spirits of the innocent victims of war? Sounds like something from a Ghost Rider comic.

So, *Arnim Zola* is giving Molly a morality lecture?

"Yes, I created the Hate-Monger, gave the Red Skull a new body, and other evil things, but at least I'm not full of crap!"

Molly's father is rather angry about all this, and tries to kill her. Since Molly can't really control her powers, the gun explodes in his hand, killing him.

Molly isn't the only low-teir superhero who thought "I can do more good as myself than wearing a costume and punching bad guys in the face." Even the Falcon, hardly low-teir, thinks that from time to time.

Here's some info on Shamrock.

I rather liked Zola reciting his defeat in the third person like that.

Yea, it's a nice touch that fits with his ilk.

The gap between what Molly here could be and what she actually is is amazing. She's a conduit for the ghosts of thousands of war dead, and this gives her the power of... being lucky. It's like if Angel Summoner only used his powers to ride around with BMX Bandit.

Though, I'm fairly certain the "thousands of ghosts" explanation wasn't in her original appearance in Contest of Champions, where she was an Irish woman called Shamrock with the power of being lucky, so good on Lobdell for at least trying to do something with that.

I dunno, allowing a ghost to manifest is a fairly impressive power, but the fact that their abilities are so limited when they DO normally manifest means they have to manfest smarter, not harder so the "lucky" thing works for me. (Telekinesis= luck, is also Domino's power)

Oh, and nice Mitchell and Webb reference! :)

Now I'm imagining Molly going, "ANGELIC HORDES COME FORTH!"

There's a really neat call back to this issue in the original Guardians of the Galaxy Annual (number 3 I think). It was explained there that her luck was the ghost protecting her since she was their vessel that's why it looks like she's lucky.

We also learn Molly doesn't age as a side effect of her power meaning that she's still alive unchanged a thousand years in the future

She also manages to use the ghost inside of her to make Samhain a death god run in terror after he boasts that those souls rightfully belong to him. So She gives them to him and the rush of all those souls seeking the release of death from their state as poltergiest is too much for him to bear.

I really like that explanation of her powers - she's a conduit to all this power but only a tiny conduit, and yet she's learned from this contact that she'd rather teach the next generation than go punch people.
