Since Odin Quincannon was in the first season of PREACHER, I'm guessing this section will either be Adapted Out or changed in some way. Here, Odin looks like Texas version of Dr. Sivana.

I thought Christina/Jodie looking like Jody was becaue they were related. Only, they aren't related. Wiki says Jody and T.C. just worked for Marie L'Angell. They weren't Christina's cousins or anything like that.

Does anyone else find this artwork really jarring? I remember this style from The Punisher comics, and it grated on me then. I don't know if it's that the faces look similar, or that they're drawn as though the artist wants to be realistic AND cartoonish, but something about it really stops me from getting into the story.

Steve Dillon's style was hit and miss for me. I thought a lot of his faces looked the same and he never felt suited for "big" action. Garth Ennis brought out the best of him, though. I liked most of his work here and in Punished. The style suits Ennis' almost cartoonish black humour.

It's a shame he passed away not long ago (I think just this past year). I would've like to see him work with Ennis again.

I like so much of his art, but when it comes to faces.... you could magic wand Cindy's eyes and mouth and nose in some of those scenes, put them on Tulip's face, or vice versa, and if you didn't tell somebody they would never know. They've all got sameface, and it's hard to deal with at times.

Like, he would draw clothes, and expressions, and backgrounds, and they all felt *so* right. It's just the fuckin' faces, man.

It's a common phenomenon in comics. I think it was more excusable in, say, the sixties and seventies, when you had such publishers as Archie and Harvey Comics churning out over twenty different titles every month or two, all big sellers, with an artist pool you could count on one hand. Thus for example Betty, Veronica, Midge and most other girls having the same face and figure within a given artist's output.

In more recent times, with publishers putting out fewer titles per month (and those that are published not necessarily coming out on a rigid schedule), not to mention an older and more discriminating readership on average, it stands out more when all characters have the same face. Reader expectations have changed, and the time-saving justification for cookie-cutter character designs doesn't hold up anymore. So, to use the above example, there's been more of an effort within Archie titles--both the all-ages reboot line and the mature horror one--to make characters look visibly different from each other.
