Yes, you read that correctly

It was Len Weins's idea to adapt a series of Peantus cartoon strips into a Batman story, which is a sentence I do not think has been written before or since. (Though Kite Man might have a claim there now I think about it)

Here for some context, from 1969, is the series of strips by Charls Shultz which inpsired the above and became some of the best known Peantus strips of them all...

I remember this from a 50th anniversary (of Batman) collection. Thanks for putting it up. It's a lovely glimpse of Wein's sense of humor.

The first and best-known of Snoopy's "novel phrases" is actually much older than the Peanuts strips. Despite its fame as a "bad" sentence, owing to its use by Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the Uwe Boll of 1820s novelists, it was used in both Washington Irving's work and the beginning of A Wrinkle in Time.

And yeah, it is kind of amazing that this story exists and doesn't involve Kite-Man.

It's funny - I'd known for years that Simonson had done this story, but I'd somehow missed Len's involvement.

I wonder how it would have resulted if they did the finished version with two parts.

The May 7th, 1989 strip.

I don't think Kite-Man's real name had been revealed at that time.

Yeah, according to my best sources, it wasn't revealed until here: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Hawkman_Vol_2_4
