It's an ending. I'm not a big fan of conclusions that are basically nesting dolls. Epilogues are a great place to tease what's coming/fallout, but a final issue should aim to deliver resolution first and foremost in my opinion. [...] Often these things end with 'and here's what the next event/linewide shift' will be. I like real endings. -- Nick Spencer

The Cosmic Cube turns back to Kobik, depowering Hydra Cap, and she brings along a friend:

That Cap smashing Cap splash, man. That sweet, sweet taste is what I believe they call satisfaction. Not a flavor typically found in the elaborate meal known as the Event Comic but, as it turns out, a delicious one.

Though much as I enjoyed Secret Empire, I do wonder if it would've been better if had NOT been a linewide event and stayed within the Cap books. And now I'm wondering, has there ever been a story that was actually improved by being done as a linewide event? Mmaybe DC One Million?

That's probably the best example I can think of too.

I thought that Acts of Vengeance and Atlantis Attacks worked pretty well as line-wide events.

Captain America is literally an idealized construct now.

That's great.

I remember seeing someone say how Hydra Steve Rogers was the literal embodiment of historical revisionism, too.

All the hamfisted "Sam is the real Cap" stuff Spencer's been doing is kind of awkward knowing that he's going to be demoted back to Falcon in a month or so.

Well. Some things I enjoyed, and some I didn't I didn't get the Hydra Hammer bit at the end, was that part of HydraCaps reality revision?

The narration rubbed me the wrong way. Far too defeatist for people who have overcome the sort of stuff Marvel heroes have.

I enjoyed the subversion of caps "Always right" moral authority. As a character, Cap always left me cold, until AvX when I started activly disliking him. His comeback was unenjoyable, but I suppose unavoidable.

They forgot Magnetos shields can block reality alternation. Also to be expected I guess.

Still don't feel Hydra as opponents.

Cthon was banished WAY to easy.

Apparently Madame Hydra changed the hammer's inscription without Cap's knowledge.

His entire history was changed, effectively making him not Cap

I can understand why people would dislike Secret Empire, but I'm not really sure why this would be 'awful', let alone one of the worst events MARVEL has made (especially in a world where Onslaught and AXIS exist, among others).

"But she left the scars and the wreckage. ...A reminder of our promise: Never Again."

Still a godawful line and a piss-poor excuse for why Kobik won't fix or bring back everyone who died in Las Vegas. Again, screw you cosmic cube brat!

Also, in the future, this book is going to be an artistic mess. At least seven different artists drew this event. There's no consistent tone, look, feel, or mood and the quality will constantly be going up and down. You got it out on time, but at what cost?

Nope. Now we get Secret War, Omega, because Marvel needs to soak the faithful for another $4.99, like a shady televangelist passing the plate among the faithful.

Is this supposed to be moving or something? It's incredibly generic, saccarine, and self satisfied.

I'm surprised this didn't turn into the two of them childishly taunting each other.
"I'm the real Steve Rogers. You're a twisted lie given human form."
"No, you."
"No, you."

(Of course, in the Marvel Universe, a twisted lie being given human form is rather common. That's what Onslaught was, really. And maybe Wonder Man, if Bendis was writing him.)

Anybody else suspect the ending to this was changed by editorial mandate? The whole series as a whole starts to feel... different, around issue 7 or 8. And they really upped the whole "it's not really Steve" vibe from the other characters as well.

I mean, maybe, maybe not, but they seemed to do a lot of work here to give Steve a very clean slate to go back to, in terms of pulling a Paralax.

These Secret reimaginings (first Secret Wars, now this) have been pretty interesting, if not a bit controversial. Who's up for Secret Invasion?
