Ultimatum was horrible, the deaths were needless, bla bla bla. That said, this two page spread from Ultimatum X-Men Requiem is both gorgeous and infuriating.





Ok, I recognize Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Beast, Xavier, Angel, Juggernaut and Dazzler. Not entirely sure about the rest though.

Seriously, the image of all those bodies, peacefully laid out before burial really tugs at the heart. Shame they're all dead long before they should be.

Also, it cracks me up that Scott doesn't get a suit, but is buried in his X-Men uniform.

Maybe it's just my dislike of the X-Men, especially the Ultimate version, but I couldn't help but sigh, "If only..."

Oh yes. As bad as Ultimatum was, this almost makes it seem worthwhile.
Too bad the X-Men are like a Hydra: Kill one and two will come forth in it's place. The third one gets resurrected for free.

I was thinking that might be her, but there's really no telling with Ultimate X-Men related stuff. As much as I like this image, the book was pretty much a mess before it ended.

Really? It didn't strike you as a bunch of people buried with no family present (when they have been shown to be in the past when they were believed dead before), and they're closest friends burying them in shallow graves with no tears or real emotions shown over it whatsoever?

Not that I'm not intensely glad to see a panel of death that isn't massively disgusting, for once, but did it have to be the scene that...well... sort of calls for it? I mean, unless the X-Men have access to embalming chemicals, plastic surgeons, and such, a few of these people should be starting to look pretty gross. Is this explained in the comic?

It's magic. Yep. Only workable explanation given the sorts of deaths that kept happening in the comic is that the bodies were stitched back together for burial with magic.
