Four scans from Blackest Night #2, one of which I found particularly interesting.

So dead rising, blah blah, you know the story.

First, what might possibly be a very significant story point:

That's the only person who's resisted the rings so far (up to and including, in this issue, the Spectre).

In terms of page-count, the main thread of this issue would be Mera and No-Longer-Aqualad fighting Zombie-Aquaman (and a couple of No-Longer-Aqualad's Zombie ex-girlfriends).  Mera hasn't had much to do in...a very long time, but she's pretty cool here.  If the constant rumours of Johns doing something Aqua-related ever come true, this bodes well.

Garth is killed, and joins the Black Lanterns; if nothing else, it's unmistakeably clear that the end of Blackest Night is going to bring back a lot of characters..

Hmm, with all these very confirmed kills, I wonder if Blackest Night will end in resurrection for some.

I'm 100% sure almost everyone who's died so far will be revived. It's too many relativly major deaths too soon. I'm thinking DC's gonna bring these guys back as well as some popular characters and then slam the death door shut for a while.

We can only hope. If that is Johns' intent I hope it gets carried on by other writers (I don't mind character deaths, but they really ought to be used sparingly).

Dc's stated this event's gonna explore the whole Revival thing and rumors abound that this is gonna be a stopping point for it as well. I agree with you too and add that revivals don't bug me a lot either, it's just that the whole thing loses meaning after a while.

Didn't they supposedly address this already in TEEN TITANS some years back? When Kid Eternity was chained to the doors of the afterlife?

Yeah but that was Teen Titans. TT is like the annoying kid who eats worms and makes fart jokes but DC let's him play just cause his mom makes him.

You're making reading this at work difficult with a comment like that!

And who's that hanging around Teen Titans right now? Kid Eternity.

So are the doors closed or open now?

Isn't Kid Eternity did? Didn't Mordru kill him a few years back?

*glances over his copy of BN*

You know what? Never mind.

the only way I'm cool with a stopping point is if they dramatically decrease deaths as well. Overall, I'd say it'll last as long Marvel's ban

HOW many times has Aqualad died? I was under the impression he died when the Spectre creamed Atlantis.

Dude, Jesus, you may not like Johns but to compare him to LOEB?

Hey, don't you go puttin' words in my mouth! I have never said I don't like Johns, nor am I comparing him to Loeb - I'm saying that there's been two major events recently where tons of characters have been killed in quick succession.

And death actually plays an important part in the Blackest Night storyline, unlike Ultimatum, where it's just death for no real reason.

Just joshing ya broseph.

Ultimatum wasen't so much a story as it was Loeb watching Hostel one day and going "Okay guys, let's murder every single Ultimate Marvel character. HORRIBLY!"

"But Mr. Loeb...shouldn't we craft a sto-"

"HORRIBLY!!!! Oh yeah and I want a two page Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver sex scene spread on my desk tommorow."

Wait...did that show up in Ultimatum? I didn't want to buy the rest of it...

In Ultimates it was always implied and hinted at that Q/S were a little too close, it was never really out and out stated.

When Loeb came in for Ultimates 3 that went out the window in favor of basically going "LOOK INCEST, HOTHOTHOT! HOT GIRL INCEST" I bet if he was allowed we would have seen a sex scene between them.

Yeah, but that's a little alternate reality, an Elseworlds sort of a deal.

To kill off *this* many main, leading characters in the core DCU so quickly? The Hawks will be back, so too will Aquaman and J'Onn. I'd bet money on it.

I have a theory that there will be a point, somewhere towards the end, where the zombies have the choice to go off into the afterlife, or return to life. I think we'll see a *huge* resurrection rate towards the end here.

Huh.

Wonder if that could essentially undo the millions of deaths in the previous crisis.

Probably just the name characters.

Or else, once the Black Lanterns reach their goal (ten-thousand hearts will get their power-level to one hundred percent, I think), everyone else is restored automatically.
