The Teen Titans cartoon version of Slade Wilson is pretty awesome. So naturally he's popular with the fancomics.

(Fanart from slinkers and jesskat83)

slinkers has a long series of cut-and-paste comics on Robin's apprenticeship like this:

dvd haunt

While jesskat83's stuff is a bit more, varied:

masks

dick

Robin = Slade's. And Slade is a jealous bastard

Yeah, [insanejournal.com profile] xdoop's post reminded me of the last one. Can't imagine why.

I'll never get over how much better the animated version of Starfire looks compared to the comic version.

I never understood why they didn't import more of the animated look to the comics. I mean, the current one is kinda dated and cheesecake-y.

She's not so much dumb as an alien though. I mean if you were sent to a new planet with completely different customs and social mores you'd be just like Starfire.

Except her Evil Raven-haired Sister(tm) Blackfire does just fine on Earth. It seems like it's just her.

Plus however Earth-adjusted she actually is by now ping-pongs back and forth every other episode, depending on how funny it is.

The way she's currently being drawn, yeah I can see that. But nothing compares to Perez's original design.

I like comics!Kory's hair- it doesn't have to be Perez-enormous, but it could at least be down to her knees or so- and her height when the artists remember that she's supposed to be quite a bit over six feet, and I don't like the skirt on toon!Kory, but giving her a top that could work on a human does make up for a lot.

You're awesome for making that panel into an icon. I thought about it, but decided it looked like too much work.

I actually tried and failed (http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/773650.html?thread=20140562#t20140562) with simple antialiasing; it was [insanejournal.com profile] bluefall who was awesome enough to put in the effort to make it legible.

If DC ever gets that Teen Titans animated movie out based on the Judas Contract storyline, Ron Perlman BETTER play Deathstroke.

I consider the Slade of the cartoon far better than the Slade of the comics. Yes I know he's antiheroic in the comics blah blah, but in the cartoon he was just old fashioned mysterious badass villainy with a creepy factor cranked up to eleven. Not to mention unlike any character in comics ever he actually managed to stay mysterious rather than having extensive backstory.
Plus, he got the one thing DC is too afraid to do; give a famous "normal" character a power. And it worked brilliantly, making him even scarier than before.

And also, Starfire's costume in the cartoon is so, so, so very much better than her not-sexist-by-author's-excuse version.

Her alien-ness? is also better displayed. Instead of being really creepy "Why must human women wear shirts? ~giggle" it's actually charming and funny.

As a matter of fact, I think he was a little too good; I partly blame Toon Slade for the Flanderization of Comic Slade. People liked the Toon version, so they tried to make the Comic version more like the Toon version, despite the fact that the two characters are really nothing alike (for one thing Comic Slade doesn't go by Slade.

I like the unmasking stalemate there.

Now I kinda want to watch that show again. Back on WB when it was new there, they kept showing the same handful of episodes pretty much endlessly. Very annoying.
