Scans of Batgirl #20. Batgirl and Spoiler's first team up!

I was so very tempted to post the scene with Bronze Tiger and Cass. But I already did that during One Perfect Moment Week. I recall this being posted in the original Scans Daily. I don't recall seeing it here.

The issue starts off with Cass intercepting someone who has a rotten case of bad luck with some street gangs. The two sides kill each other before Cass can do much. She finds a bag with money and a letter that she cannot read. So she goes to someone who can:





The duo arrive at the pick up spot but still no clue whether it was the bagman or the kidnappers that got iced. They witness this:




I hate that I had to cut out the page of Steph doing a Dear Diary caption in the next page, knowing what her next science paper will be about: her constant battle with gravity. Cass and Steph meet back at the same point where they find the kidnappers including the "victim" who wanted the money for himself and to double cross his own brother.

Struggle ensues between the two brothers:




And so begins the beginning of a beautiful friendship:










Ok I have no idea if that's Cass with Tim, but if it is I still lol hard at Steph's expression.

Awww. Though my favorite bit will always be their "sparring match" in which Steph gets her ass utterly handed to her. Anyone remember what issue that was in?

I so love Steph's exclamations in this. They're so very...Ambush Bug-esque. "Woo! Ow! Whoa! Eep! Woop!" :D

Do you mean the one where Steph goes yelling to Oracle "She BROKE my NECK!" ("Cass, did you break her neck?" "Fracture. Tiny.") and it ends up giving Cass an idea that creates a break in the Bruce Wayne: Murderer case?

zomg you cut the part that has Steph trainsurfing! D: Robinly traditions enacted in advance when she won't have the occasion to do so in canon as Robin, due to writer phail! *freaks out, quietly*

I think the girl in the picture with ghost!Steph is Ariana.

Squeeeeeee! It's so cute seeing them team up. So cute how Cass obviously takes to heart Batman's "in these streets, you are me". And zomg Steph is spunky and determined and maaaan, I wanna read about the friendship of Cass and Steph forever. This is a much nicer vision of the Cass-Steph friendsdhip than the one Dixon wrote in Batgirl 30-33, imo. It took me a while, but I ship them a lot now.

The two pages where Cass wants Steph to read the note and Steph is "...what if I don't?" are excellent storytelling. Expressive art, nothing gets in the way...

I actually found the picture of Steph putting lipstick on Cass quite touching. It's a true girlfriend (the platonic sort) moment and sort of grounds these two superheroes as friends.

Agreed. Especially because it's young girls. Most of the good girlfriend moments only seem to be happening among the adult women in comics, while the younger girls are at each other's throats half the time (okay... specifically thinking of Teen Titans I guess...)

I did too! I mean, I love all of this but that picture's so sweet, somehow. I think the touching seems really gentle and intimate in a friendly/sister way. Maybe it's also nice because we know how often they beat each other senseless. (Or Cass beats her senseless and Steph beats other people senseless.)

The picture with Ghost!Steph shows Tim and Darla Aquista Laura Fell, in a scene from Robin #121. "Uncle" Eddie gave them lemonade and then left them alone, thinking he knew why Tim wanted to be alone with her. Steph seems to be thinking the same thing... Understandable, since it was seeing them kissing that inspired her to make her own Robin costume and break into the cave.

I love when Spoiler is drawn with those cartoony Phantom Plot eyes. Screw realism; the look is totally her.
