This week--or rather, last week--at Mister Kitty's Stupid Comics, we see one of Hitler's many dastardly plans to destroy America. But unlike Nekron in Blackest Night, he goes for something much simpler and cost-effective than reviving superheroes: reviving the homeless.
Remember that hobo you shot last week? Here he is, back again!

Ah, the old days, when a cop could shoot an unarmed bum dead just for shouting. But as you see, Officer Friendly has a nasty surprise.

Yep, those 1940s CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS were mostly horror stories with a pair of super-heroes thrown in. Pretty gruesome any way you look at them. In an early Red Skull story, the villains catches two imposters dressed as Cap and Bucky and immediately kills them. As their bodies hang in from of him, he laughs maniacally; and that's one of the less lurid tales.

I'd guess the Comics Code was not instituted because of this story (which would be a decade in the past and forgotten)but because of the hundreds of grisly, overdone horror comics imitating EC.

"STUPID COMICS" is a poorly-chosen name for the site, it's condescending and smug, but the content seems interesting.

Are you kidding? I love those late 50s Hartley Patsy Walkers! They're snappy. I wouldn't call it "trashing", we're merely pointing out the never-ending parade of views of the side of Hedy Wolfe's lovely head.

I'm actually disturbed by the fact that the cop's first impulse is to shoot the bum just for staggering about. What if he wasn't a bum but a guy who was just in a car wreck?

I guess this was before pepper spray and Stun Guns, but still.

I think it was less the staggering-about part and more the reaching-for-the-cops-throat-while-yelling-"kill kill" part.

The officer may feel threatened by this derelict rushing at him and yelling "Kill! Kill!" Who wouldn't be? But the dialogue is odd. Does it sort of suggest that bums running amok is not that rare a thing?

He does sound very matter-of-fact about it, but their training probably covers it.

Bum is starving in the street-direct him to soup kitchen.
Nazi runs amok-shoot him gleefully.
Zombie bum runs amok-shoot him, but do it regretfully.

The shooting: right impulse, wrong reason. And hasn't he ever heard of, I dunno, shooting in the leg? Oh, but it's just a bum.

Personally, given Simon & Kirby's rather tough background, I almost get the feeling they were getting in a little shot at the kind of cops they might've had in their neighborhoods growing up.

More of a dialogue fail than anything. Instead of "Run amok, eh you bum? I'll have to shoot you, poor devil," the correct response should have been, "Oh. Shit. A murderous zombie on the rampage. We're all going to die. Where's my gun. Oh shit. Oh. Shit."
