This is from Hercules #4. It's written and illustrated by Bob Layton.

Hercules is enjoying a party on Ciegrim-7, the Distiller's Planet.

Later, Galactus's herald Nova arrives. Hercules battles her until...

Later...

Hercules is thinking of what to do when the Recorder states "Observation: It will be a great loss to the culture of the galaxy when Ciegrim-7 perishes! Their techniques for distilling liquors will be lost for all time!" This gives Hercules an idea.

And at the end...

....

This is all kinds of awesome. It manages to be funny while keeping just about everyone in-character.

Excellent post !

I really wish Bob Layton (where is he these days) and do another Herc. book.

I had forgotten he bangs Nova at the end.

Whatever happened to Layton? He was fun when he started writing.

Running his website (http://www.boblayton.com/) and doing commission work.

Also, it would appear, doing a new Hercules miniseries; HERCULES: TWILIGHT OF A GOD

I loved this series so much. And I loved how Nova was basically looking for love among the stars....

This looks to be fairly old - does this mean that Herc has been a running sex joke for that long? Not that it's wrong - I find the book hilarious, and as someone said last week "should be dipped in gold". It's the first book I read every week it comes out. The recap pages alone are a riot.

Ah, this was my first introduction to the character, when it was reprinted as a back up story in the UK Transformers comic (in retrospect, it seems a funny choice, given the sexy fun time aspects and the epic amount of boozing done in the story).

I've never known Herc as anything but this portrayal, really. Probably explains my fondness for the character. Certainly the current take isn't a new one.

Hercules has been a running sex joke since Ancient Greece, no?

So, I guess the real question is who in the Marvel Universe has Hercules not slept with.

Mary Jane, Aunt May, Sharon Carter, Outlaw, Betty Brant, Dakota North, X-23, Rouge, Kitty Pride, Jessica Jones, Sue Storm, Mokingbird, Carol Danvers, Karla Sofen, etc,

(Of course, I'm just listing these names knowing full well that someone is going to prove me wrong.) Besides even if Herc did sleep with them I'm sure half the male Marvel Superhero population will come after him.

I miss the Marvel that could take chances like this. I'm as much of a Shooter-hater as anyone, but it must be admitted: Marvel(which had Epic at the time) was never as experimental as it was during the 80s.

And this experiment worked and people dug it. Which only goes to show that taking chances is the only way to true awesomeness.

I have this series, it's wonderful!

The question all living beings in the Marvelverse must ask isn't "What we do when Galactus devours our home planet?" it's "What will we do when the Herc machine comes partying through?"
