Come what may, that version of Violet's costume will always be twenty kinds of fabulous.

(Yes, I really did finally break down and get an account just so I could say that. :o )

Say what you want about the disco Legion, but disco Saturn Girl makes a great Rock Band character (http://www.rockband.com/wallpaper/3690791/2)

I also signed on just to say this. :)

As a kid, I totally had a crush on Saturn Girl...her aloof demeanor, contrasted with that space-stripper outfit...she was Emma Frost before Emma Frost. ;-)

I had one of those "car in a bottle" kits back in the day. Like most things advertised in comic books, it was a disappointment. It took about ten seconds to assemble, the bottle was cheap plastic, and the "trick" was that the bottom of the bottle came off so you could shove the car inside.

Nope, never had the shrunken head kit. I did have a pair of X-Ray Spex. It gave you a sort of blurry double-vision...if you held your hand up to the light, it kinda-sorta looked like you were seeing the bones. But no luck seeing through girls' dresses. D:

Nice that Phantom Lad was keeping the flag flying for male seminudity. Perhaps it was seeing him in that that prompted Rokk to go "Say... maybe I can make that look work for me, but I don't need no stinking shoulder-straps"

That was the cool thing about Grell...he was an equal opportunity exploiter. There were lots of stripped-down guys running around in his Warlord series too.

So many people still complain about that costume, too. You'd think that if were that traumatizing, they wouldn't keep feeling compelled to bring it up. :p

Let them, I have my Jeff Moy commission of it (http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=490200&GSub=42157) to keep me warm!*

* Which is more than it probably ever did for Cos! :)

[grin]

That is so many kinds of adorable! (Is it okay if I non-hotlink some other fans on another board to this?)

I can't explain it. Nine out of ten Moy pictures make my brain melt. It's sad. I get the same way watching the cartoon. :o

I remember the Valor Dominion rescue, which I really liked, and which tied in very comfortably with the Valor worship in the post ZH Legion which led him to take the name M'onel rather than Valor when he was retrieved.

Is it in continuity now? Lord knows, but I doubt it, alas.

Aw, Night Girl and Shadow Lass' costumes matched. They should've teamed up more often.

Indeed. They DO team in the Superman series, in fact. Lydda's 'outfit' in this is all kinds of wrong, but the worst thing was what they did to her hair! I love the Rokk/Lydda relationship, though. It was the student class president dating the girl who hung with the nerds and artist types. Probably scandalized the Legion back in the day!

Well, maybe they'll get their chance now. Aren't they both part of whatever they're calling the current Legion (that's almost the one I remember but not exactly)?

In the 5YL-verse they'd married and had a son together, named Pol, after Rokk's recently deceased kid brother

I believe she was made a full-fledged Legionnaire during the Justice League of Earth crisis, when they were extremely low on members (Earth Boy had about half the Legion in his private prison to leach power off). But it happened "offscreen" as it were, so it's easy to miss.

So is *that* the official "starting point" of the "retroboot" or whatever it is we're supposed to call it now?

(I don't know why I even care about figuring it out. By the time I get it sussed they'll have changed everything around again, anyway. :/ )

I'd pin it to the Lightning Saga (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Lightning_Saga) in JLA & JSA, which ties directly in to the JLE crisis in Action Comics (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Superman_and_the_Legion_of_Super-Heroes). Then we go from there straight into Legion of 3 Worlds, and thence into Adventure Comics.

You could argue that the official start goes all the way back to Starman's first appearance in the current JSA title, but I can't swear that they really knew where they were going with him at that point.

Thanks. I have a lot of reading to do-- someday. If I ever get the library to cough some of this stuff up. (!@#$% unemployment! Grrr...)

I've said it before, I'll say it again: apart from Cosmic Boy, these were the most memorable Legion uniforms ever, only matched by Gary Frank's.

Frank just updated the old ones. These were original. I loved phantom Girl's flairs, platforms and pig tails
