I have to say, I love the way Tomasi writes Dick and how he just 'gets' the Bat family members. (Why is he still working on Green Lantern, again?)

Because he just 'gets' the vast cast of Green Lantern too, I think. His work with Kyle, Soranik & Guy has been nothing short of fabulous, and the characters he's introduced -Miri, Kryb, Mongul & the Daxamites- have all been compellingly written.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to see what Tomasi could do on a Bat-book, but I really can't think who could replace him on GL Corps. It's a difficult book to write well.

I like Rucka's Batwoman arc being in Det and I'm waiting until a few more issues to see what this Brian Miller guy's going to do with Batgirl, but I otherwise agree. :D

Oh, Peter Tomasi. How I love thee. Poor Tim. I love the way Tomasi gets that most of the core Batfamily is all about their relationship to grief and mourning and death. It seems like he's using the way each Bat looks at it to drive the story more than just the zombies themselves, if that makes sense?

Jack's comment on the outfit is just killer. I can't help but notice the Graysons have been given brown hair, but I'm with it.

Hell, that's been the key strength of Blackest Night in general so far--instead of just going for "oh! zombies! gore!" it's been running on seeing your friends and family rotting, saying horrible things and trying to kill you by consuming your beating heart.

I think a huge part of Blackest Night will be when it's over and people notice that Bruce (and I assume the Waynes?) didn't rise like everyone else. It'll be clue he's not as dead as they thought.

Not your fault--it's me using totally the wrong word. It's not pun that I meant, it's just that he's saying one of those doofy things like Dick used to always say. Like if he threw somebody out of a car he'd say something goofy like "It's time for you to hit the road!" Or "No time to stop and jaw!" as he punched someone in the jaw.

So John Grayson smashing his way into the top of their flying blimp and announcing, "Now that's what I call a high wire act!" makes me think maybe his dad did it too, which is adorable.

Poor Tim. What a year or two (DCU time) he's had. Seriously has anyone who cares about him (or says they do) bothered to get him professional help? Think what it could have done for Bruce at the same age had he gotten some. We've gotten all these panels from his friends and family wanting to "talk" to him but they are really not the people he should be talking to. A psychiatrist would be better.

I do like how matter-of-fact Dick is here though. He's not going to let the zombies faze him. Bruce would be proud.

Actually, I don't think that sounds so great. It's not like emotional support is only to be done in a professional, sterile environment by a distinterested person who's studied a subject that isn't even so black and white to begin with. It's not like a therapist has some easy answers for the kind of existential questions they talk about with each other.

If Tim really needs anti-depressants than yes, he'd need a doctor's prescription, but I think Tim would actually do just as well talking to the people who do care about him as with a therapist--or probably better. He won't talk to his loved ones for the same reason he would reject professional help and they can't push either on him. I don't think Bruce would have been any different or better with a therapist. In fact given the time period at this point I would guess he must have had one for a time because it would be standard.

True, you have a point. But I still think Dick or somebody should have considered it. I mean obviously he won't talk to THEM, maybe a neutral observer (professional or not) could help. Of course, when Tim turns out to be the only one in the whole DCU who was right about Bruce, I expect him to stop being as emo.

This is one of the places when J'onn Jonzz really is needed in the DCU. He was usually the one person ANYONE could talk to for a sympathetic ear.

It will be pretty interesting when Tim's proved right--part of what's so crazy about the way he's acting is he won't tell anybody why he thinks it, exactly. But he also thinks that finding Bruce will put everything back to the way it was when he was 16, and he's going to find out he's mistaken there!

Oh, totally agree. And I'm glad Dick took some action (except for brushing off Tim for Damien so nonchalantly, Dick seems to have made all the right Bat-moves to date).

I'm sure the writers have some plan why Tim thinks Bruce is alive but if I was writing it I would go with the obvious reasons: a)Bruce always had a plan - even with Darkseid b)Kon, Bart, Superman, etc. Almost everyone Tim knows has literally come back from the dead and c)Just because the corpse-DNA matched Bruce it means nothing, the whole DCU went through the same thing literally months ago (DCU time) when everyone BUT Bruce and Dinah thought it was Ollie she had killed (turns out to be the Everyman). All Tim has to do is use his own experience to tell him why Bruce is alive, the real question is why is he the ONLY ONE to think so?

Yeah, that seems to be the problem, that his own experience is what people assume he's using and don't accept. They assume he just figures since everybody else came back from the dead, why not Bruce? But it seems that at this point Tim "just knows" in the way he "just knew" Dick was Robin...only what he knew then was that he recognized that quad somersault!

But he must have some concrete evidence because why else did he know to go to that museum etc.?

Pratically, a psychiatrist wouldn't work, because of the whole secret identity thing. But either way, I don't think Tim would really be able to listen to anything like that right now. What I've read of psychology, barring medicine there's really no solution that can be made unless the patient decides that it is the right thing to do.

God, I hate all the blackest night stuff. The rainbow of rings could have been kind of fun, but between this, ralph and sue, and Donna Troy's dead baby, it is about as creepy and unpleasant as anyone could possibly make it.

I look at the Lanterns as scifi stories.

But even in horror stories, I think there's the good kind of creepy, where you are thrilled by the imagination it took to come up with that scenario, and the bad kind of creepy, where you feel like they're going for a quick, cheap shock.

I dislike the Black Lanterns the same way I dislike event-driven character death or a writer making a regular hero act extremely out-of-character so they'll fit in one story. They're disregarding the wider universe so they can have a dun Dun DUN moment on one page.

Plus. Dead zombie baby? It didn't work for Stephen King, and it doesn't work here.

To be fair, horror is a genre that can fit into a lot of different kinds of stories and you can have a sci-fi/horror story. Look at Alien, for example.

And I thought the way they've been using most of the Black Lanterns haven't been cheap at all--it's meant to be shocking, because the BLs feed on emotions and really, everyones reactions to the BLs are pretty similar to anyone who's friend or family member reappears as a rotting corpse who wants to kill you.

I'll admit the baby did sound pretty border-line when I first heard of it. I haven't reat BN: Titans so I can't really say for certain if it was used alright or not.
