As far as I know, the name Nightwing had always originated from the hero of Kandor. There was a Silver Age story, I believe, where Supes and Jimmy were on another planet and dressed up as Nightwing and Flamebird for whatever reason, though. That might have predated any other origin of the name, unless it included it...
