I would seriously love to know why anyone would shoot a fashion show like a music video?

Date: 2009-09-24 09:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] neuhallidae.insanejournal.com
Well, that explains a lot about Jan's death. Can't have a character who's an actual designer running around in full-length body suits (skin tight as they are) when you want to get away with stripper skirts and short petticoats. [/halfsarcasm]

And the sound on my laptop is malfunctioning, so I couldn't hear a thing in the video. Should I be grateful?

It could be worse.

It's not the Emma Frost costume for kids.

(yes, one exists, no, I don't have a link)

Why would they make costumes that are wrong? When they don't even make ones that are right?

I love how the Emma Frost one is the only one that looks just like what the character wears in the comics. [/sarcasm] ...Actually, the Captain America one is kind of cute. Like in a "if Steve Rogers' full first name was Stephanie instead of Steven, she may appear on propaganda posters, if certainly not in battle, in something like this minus the random cleavage cut-out" sort of way. I want her boots!

I guess I'd be okay with inaccurate cutesy/sexy costumes if they actually looked... good. These look so tacky and cheap and unappealing. The cap one is kinda sorta okay, the rest are ew. Why does good design sense seem to go out the window when it comes to outfits that show lots of skin?

Offering alternate lady costumes that are actually, yanno, accurate would also be nice.

Date: 2009-09-25 04:53 am (UTC)

Well, Emma's costume is supposed to be trashy. It doesn't stand out as much when Marvel does a full line of trashy Halloween costumes.

Thought 1) Hrmm, Black Spider-Woman would be great for a fetish night.

2) Steve! What did they do to you?!

3) Emma Frost is actually rather nice. The rest are kind of a special kind of hideous.

I'm disappointed they replaced Emma's tights with a miniskirt. "No, no, we must make Emma Frost's costume show more skin!"

There are soooo many female cosplayers who could walk circles around these designs.

Not a model.
Also, I am a FANGIRL, want costumes that look somewhat like what is worn in the comics.
Emma Frost outfit = good.
Spider-girl outfit = me want to throw stuff.

That sound you hear is not Jan rolling over in her grave. That sound is the sound of this level of fail actually catapulting Jan back to full, natural life, just so that she can design actual faux-superhero costumes that are not made of randomly shiny plastic and, also, cleavage cut-out on Cap's STAR? Have you no SHAME?! (Answer: no.)

Date: 2009-09-25 04:34 am (UTC)

I have this lovely mental image of Jan ripping the sketches of these outfits with an utterly put out "Oh, hayell, no" look on her face.

Mention of store bought halloween costumes always makes me think of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4rUiV_Hh74). These costumes from Marvel just kind of prove the point. XP

God, yes. And *that* is why last year, my friends and I chipped in for fabric and my roommate and I sewed our costumes on another friend's sewing machine, so that we could go to my residence hall's Halloween dance as the monks from Monty Python. Although the previous year, I actually somehow found Elizabeth Swann's dress from the Brethren Court in POTC3 in costume form, and it was semi-accurate-looking aside from the hat in overall effect.

Date: 2009-09-24 11:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sir_mikael.insanejournal.com
You know, I'm getting the feeling that they think the first dress is actually based on the black Spidey costume rather than the costume of Spider-Woman. Who had it first. So why not just call it a Spider Woman dress instead of the silly sounding Black Spider Girl?

Ha, Emmas is basically the same.

The regular Spider-girl one is possibly the ugliest piece of clothing I have ever seen.

Date: 2009-09-25 12:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] liarashadowsong.insanejournal.com
Actually, there was a Spider-Woman (not Spider-Girl) who wore a costume like that (I believe it was Julia Carpenter, not the better-known Jessica Drew), though if I'm not mistaken her costume was based on the black Spider-Man costume, too. Which still means she should be called Spider-Woman, just for slightly different reasons.

And, yes, Emma's costume is largely unchanged, though I personally prefer the version with tight pants to the mini skirt one that was made into the costume.

Remember Rose Wilson's comment about Supergirl's and Miss Martian's costumes? "Those skirts are ridiculous combat gear."

Well, that applies to here, too. I srsly hate these. As a girl, I just want a badass costume without them being slutty. (Had to make my own GL costume last year, for that matter. Pfft).

I . . . buh . . . just . . . what?

I mean . . . what? There are skimpy female comic book character outfits. Why would you . . . give "Black Spider Girl" or Black Cat a skirt? Or female Captain America? What? What? Someone explain this to me, because all I can think here is visions of the ridiculous MJ-doing-laundry-sexily statue. It's just . . .

The people in charge at Marvel need to meet real women.
