I so love Harley.

And I so hate this art.

In that last panel, am I the only one thinking Jokers been watching too many of the Saw movies?

Now see, I could SEE the Joker of old doing a series of crimes based on movie monsters like Jason, Freddie and and Jigsaw... just for fun.

But the days of the Joker pulling themed capers seems sadly long gone.

For some reason I see the "But I am a relatively small vindictive soul" line utterly hilarious. Maybe it's because I imagine Joker saying it deadpan as opposed to his normal manhically "happy" tone of voice.

When well written and acting in a Joker-ish manner, always.

I could never hear Morrison's Joker a Hamill though, which is not to say he's not well written, just not written as any take on the Joker I can properly relate to. I had the same problem with The Dark Knight movie, Heath Ledger gave a powerhouse performance as a psychopathic monster in the role, but it never really felt like the Joker to me.

Exactly. He could pull off those shifts in tone, going from braying and maniacal to bitter or quietly menacing and back again.

For the most part -- save for some art issues -- loved it.

Hated Morrison's Joker, Glad to see a well-written Joker back.

I have to admit that I am really annoyed seeing Joker in this story. He is the big bad of the Bat-verse and we have a new Batman. So instead of featuring the character in that story, instead of having him step out of the shadows to deal with a new man under the cowl and how his obsession deals with it, we instead have him here. Jealous about Harley.

I'm with another commentor who said that whatever one feels about R.I.P. and Joker's portrayl in it, they should at least follow-up on that before starting to have the character appear in a lesser title in a way that is in no way reflective of his last major appearance.

Hmmm... A characterization of the Joker that I enjoy or paying lipservice to the increasingly oxymoronic idea of "DC continuity"? Decisions, decisions...

Yes, having the Joker first appear in one of the main Batman books and shown how he has adapted to the new Batman is so lip-service compared to him just randomly jump in here to have a jealous fit. You're kind of distorting the issue here, as the problem I mention is blowing Joker's first appearance post-R.I.P. here instead of playing it for dramatic effect.

I agree with Trelas, I it's one thing to not like Morrison's Joker, but Dini just totally disregards his character development from Morrison's Run. There's not even a hint of anything that happened to him since his last appearance in R.I.P. I was expecting a big return from Joker, and his appearance here just seems random.

Maybe this is a precursor to a big appearance in the mainstream Dick-and-Damian book? I sure hope so. It would be wonderful to see how the two as a team deal with this most classic of Bat-villains.

Here's what I don't get:

Why are people talking about this like it's something new?

Morrison's Joker was introduced waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2007, for pity's sake! And since then Joker's made several appearances in other books, and, unsurprisingly, nobody wants to use Morrison's take but Morrison.

Mm, he's almost like Loeb in that respect - completely ignoring everyone else in favour of his rather silly story ideas.

Hopefully, as with the rest of his writings, Morrison will ignore this.

The fact that Harley says he hasn't used the giant balloons and henchmen in years is, imo, Dini's way of saying " Yeah, this is nothing like the Joker we've been seeing as of lately, he's gone classic here."

And quite honestly, knowing Joker's psycho ways, I wouldn't be surprised that he lapsed into this zany Dini-version when dealing with jealousy over Harley Quinn.

So yeah, no problem with this, they could have kept the bullet mark on his forehead but seriously, the Joker is the Joker in any incarnation, just kinda go with the flow.

Hush and Harley are an odd pair though.
