When we last left the story, our fearless hero was facing impossible odds: a city in turmoil, an apparently unstoppable supervillain behind it all, and his trusted mentor nowhere to be found. He's got one shot: a counter-stratagem that might turn everything around...

... or it just might crash and burn, leaving Tim to join his predecessor in the line of Good Soldiers behind glass in the Batcave.

In our last installment, Tim failed to stop the Joker for a second time, allowing the Joker to complete the next step of his plan. Now the Joker's put a serious cyber-bug into Gotham's mainframes, making the oncoming holiday season look more nightmarish than ever.

How bad can it be, you ask? Well...

Ah, the New Year! New beginnings, new opportunities... and for me, a chance to (finally) kick off a series of reviews centering around my favorite comics character and my favorite comics creator!

The story we'll be looking at today is one that pits Tim Drake, AKA Robin III, against a certain green-haired Clown Prince of Crime. Said story also happens to take place around the holiday season - complete with oodles of that good old Gotham snowfall - and has Batman be mysteriously absent so that Tim can face down the big bad Joker all by himself. I think you all know where this is going...

Yes, folks... it's time to dig into 1991's Robin II: The Joker's Wild!

Tim and the Joker.

Yeah. I had a bunch more "Villains Being Awesome" moments to post, but there are so, so few days of October left. Ergo, I decided to lump several of them into one post!

As a last-ditch effort to establish some kind of connecting theme beyond "Batman villains", I chose the three villains featured in what popular opinion has deemed the worst Batman film to date, Batman & Robin. If anyone deserves to have their awesomeness trumpeted and the reputations that that movie gave them destroyed, it's these three. And I say that as a guy who's usually apathetic (at best) to two of them.

Now it has to be said that, with the revamped costume, the quite serious approach to things, and the ninja skills, Tim Drake worked wonders for the reputation of Robin, no more elf shoes or bare legs for one thing...

But let's not kid ourselves

A recent thread about how childhood trauma seemed to generate villains, but few heroes, reminded me of Colin Wilkes, the closest thing Damian Waybe might have admitted to having as a friend (rather than ally), Colin Wilkes...

The new issue of Teen Titans is out today, and it's a kind of breather issue between Big Epic Battle Sequences - the one we've just finished with Trigon & Co., and the upcoming Forever Evil sub-issues (numbered #23.1 and #23.2) featuring Trigon and Deathstroke.

You'll recall that last issue ended a little something like this:

Titans? Anyone? HELP? )

We have a guest artist in Robson Rocha this issue, whose pencils are serviceable, and inker Wayne Faucher. But I continue to hate the coloring jobs we're getting on this book.

For those who felt that the whole "Batman inc." was something of a sausagefest (especially after the New 52 wiped out two of it's more prominent female members), the tumlr based webcomic "Batgirl Inc." may be what you need.

This is the description from the creators

Batgirl Inc is an au Batman Family webcomic and creative initiative starring Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown that chronicles the mysterious circumstances that bring these girls together as Batgirl Inc in order to combat a growing threat whose shadow has encroached upon Gotham. This is heroics done the Batgirl way: awesomely

Babs seems to be the primary batgirl, with Tim Drake providing Oracle-like support.

They've just completed their first issue (It's a slow release thing), but they have just started a "Summer Special" issue...

And you know what Summer Special means....

In the past post I made, I presented a case where the foundation for a possible relationship between Tim Drake and Cass Cain could have been build upon,
http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/4424927.html

In THIS post, I'll show why and how I think that them becoming a couple just prior to the reboot was a thing. And establish a narrative using what's there to make sense of the Cass Cain Brainwashing Fiasco.

Yeah, it's totally subjective, but I think that there's evidence there that makes sense.

In my never-ending quest to prove that 90s Batman comics weren't the mess of gloom, doom, and violence that everyone says they were, I present several instances from the Bat-comics of that period that genuinely made me laugh. These cover all three periods of the nineties - early, mid, and late.
