Yes, believe it or not I do have something to add to "Cute Romance Week"... and not a rope, shackle, or piece of duct tape in sight... honest! :)

These two instances both refer to Jason 1.0, the circus performer, not the street-punk revamp.

This first one is from 1983's "New Teen Titans #33"

Jay meets someone for the first time )

And from Detective Comics 561 in 1986 comes a 15-page story from Doug Moench and Gene Colan which has been messy to cut down because it covers two interesting plot strands in one story and I'd love to showcase both; Bruce and Jason discuss drug use, and Jason gets a girlfriend. I veer more towards the latter than the former given the theme, but I thought it worth mentioning the other too...

And then there was Rena... )

Oh, and some last minute theme approriate Valentine cards perhaps? )

As promised, this is the second mega-posting to celebrate the end of "Dude(s) in Distress Week", dealing with published images... (This is sort of a "Greatest Hits", as much of it has been posted before)

The history of the "Dude in Distress" in graphical literature is a long and noble one... there are probably medieval woodcuts showing that sort of thing, but as that slightly predates most of the usual area of scans_daily, we'll skip to something vaguely more recent... well, relatively speaking.

LOTS of scans under the cut, but I've used smallish thumbnails so as not to kill your broadband completely! Just stun it slightly...

First shot at a post, sorry if there's any problem!

We've seen it from Dick Grayson in Batman and Robin's first run: if these pages from Detective Comics #815 are any indication, stepping into the boots of Batman entails losing a certain skill. Can you guess what it is?

Punctuality? Conversationalism? The ability to look silly in a pointy cape?  )

Apparently, Batmite is the reason by Brave and the Bold is getting cancel, not the CN's odd habit of canceling some of their newer shows after 3 seasons, or the the occasional fan favorite that is canned because no toys can be made for it... or if they change the name of the show like it was Coke... (cough)BEN10(cough)...

Let take a look at our favorite 5th-Diemsional fanboy last attempt to hijack a Batman show in his "New York Adventure" in Detective Comics #482.

2 pages & a video under the cut )

From fairly early in the Knightfall run, we have Tim vs a couple of the heavier hitters in Gotham for the first time.

I'm not normally a fan of Sam Kieth's style, but I love Tim's "I SO hate my life right now" expression.

7 and a bit pages from 22.

Boy Hostage? Like hell!! )

Following my recent Scarecrow posting, I mentioned this story, and was asked to post if I could. And I can, so I will.

It's from Detective Comics 835 and 836, the post OYL era, in the midst of the Paul Dini run on Detective. This story isn't by him though, it's a fill in two-parter by John Rozum, with art by the legendary Tom Mandrake and some seriously creative used of colour by Nathan Eyring.

It's also VERY cinematic, this was written and drawn like a damn good horror movie IMHO (Or possibly a "terror movie", I believe Boris Karloff used to distinguish the difference between the two; A "horror movie" may make you sick to your stomach, a "terror movie" makes you scared to go upstairs to your bedroom in the dark after watching it. I know what he means)

So draw the curtains, turn down the lights and welcome to the Scarecrow in a whole new light... the light of....

This post is about the relationship between Onyx Adams and Cassandra Cain, two of Gotham's most formidable defenders. Two people who found redemption, purpose, and friendship.

"She was an assassin once. Like my father. Like Shiva. Like...me. She understands."

Detective #567 was written by noted science fiction writer and personality, Harlan Ellison and the end result is.... well, it's fantastic.

It's 12:03 in Gotham City and Batman is starting his nightly patrol, but tonight...

will be a night like no other for Batman )
