AVENGERS #32 in an ORIGINAL SIN tie-in, but doesn't have much to do with ORIGINAL SIN. After that Watcher's eye knowledge bomb, Captain America remembers the Illuminati mind-wiped him. He goes after Tony with some Avengers, then the Time Gem appears and sends the group into the future. This happens twice, each time with some team members getting sent back to the present.

Hi folks!

Captain America has fought many enemies over the years, and a surprising number of them have also been "Captain America." These twisted reflections of our hero represent America's fear that we aren't who we want to be, the best of the America spirit. Instead, they are distorted by hatred and greed, the America we do not want to be.

This is the story of one such man, Fifties Cap. This story is from Captain America #155 in 1972; six pages of twenty.

The man who would be Steve Rogers )

Not being American I don't necessarily feel qualified to post this, but sometimes you just can't help yourself

As American as.... )

AVENGERS #31 ties into ORIGINAL SIN, without having much to do with ORIGINAL SIN. The Time Gem is sending a group of Avengers to the future. As before, they encounter a group of that time's Avengers who knew they were coming. This time, they are 422 years in the future. Captain America and Black Widow are gassed and grabbed by the "Avengers" while Thor, Hyperion and Starbrand are kept in a large clear box. (Thor can hold his breath a long time, while Hyperion and Starbrand don't need to breathe, even though Starbrand didn't know this.)

AVENGERS #30 is an ORIGINAL SIN crossover. In issue 29 Captain America remembered his mindwipe and that Tony Stark and the Illuminati were going to build a "world destroying" weapon to save Earth and all of Reality. Tony and a bunch of armors fought Cap and a group of Avengers. And then the Time Gem appeared and popped them all 48 years into the future, because Why Not?

J.M. DeMatteis wrote "The Death of the Red Skull" saga that went to CAPTAIN AMERICA #300. CAPTAIN AMERICA #294 covers a small but important part, where Steve Rogers wants to talk to Bernie Rosenthal about their relationship.

The art is by Paul Neary, who gives everything a very strong Steve Ditko vibe.

Bernie knows melodramatic acting )

I picked up a few regular comics as well as the free ones on Free Comic Book Day. After the previous post where young Nova asks some semi-relevant questions, I noticed that he's doing it again in Original Sin #0.

As the new kid on the block, I guess it's only fair that he gets to be the viewpoint character for expository information.

This a one-shot that's available for free on the Marvel comics app or on Marvel Unlimited. I thought it was an interesting response to the more 'cynical' approach to superheroes and the criticism of "How come they're not stopping poverty/war/disease, etc?"

So I saw Winter Soldier and loved it. And I loved that Batroc was in it. Because Batroc is awesome :D

Sadly, while reading a bunch of reviews, I've noticed a disturbing trend: people think Batroc is a loser. Pretty much everybody expressed shock over the fact that Batroc in the movie was cool, because they are convinced that Batroc in the comics sucks.

Guy has no superpowers whatsoever, no weapons or tech or armour or fancy gadgets, and he can still put up a decent fight against the likes of Captain America, simply because he trained his butt off all his life to become a genuinely competent martial artist. How can people call him a loser? :(

SO. I've decided to post a couple of pages from Captain America #360!

Batroc VS sharks! )

And while I am at it, how could I possibly pass up the chance to post this panel?

Finally, I need help to find a certain issue. I've seen a few panels of a story with Batroc that looks hilarious, and I'd love to read the whole story, but I have no idea what issue it is.

Could you take a look at these panels and let me know if you recognize the issue? )

CAPTAIN AMERICA: STRANDED IN DIMENSION Z was a very sci-fi pulp way to start the most recent Captain America series. And throughout the series are various flashbacks to Steve's 1920s-30s childhood in the Lower East Side, complete with the whole "Steve's father was an alcoholic" that they first revealed in an Iron Man story, IIRC.
Anyway, here's some more about Steve's childhood.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #401 is a "cool down" issue after Operation: Galactic Storm. Cap is in a sulky mood after half the Avengers executed the Supreme Intelligence for using the Nega-Bomb as a genocide weapon on the Kree.
I've posted pages from this issue before, and these pages reflect the friendship between Steve Rogers and Clint Barton. It is a friendship that (it seems) won't get reflected in the Marvel Cinema Universe and seems to have been largely ignored over the decades.

Wish the Falcon would get back )
