I've lately been slowly reading through Priest's Black Panther run, and yesterday I read an arc which was rather amusing given recent event. I think I saw someone mention part of it in the comments of scans_daily recently, actually, something about sort of Illuminati like gather involved Black Panther, Doom, Magneto and Namor. It also involved T'Challa flirting with Storm way before Hudlin's run. Funny stuff.

Anyway, I hope it's not overly complicated, but it's Priest's run which tends to have a bazillion things happening at the same time and also is tough to cut to 7 pages.

Black Panther v3 #26, ~7 pages

So I was browsing Deviant Art and came across some interesting fan works. This is a series of works that try and sum up both heroes and villians in a word.

Not a lot of people were reading the FF's book back in 2002, or if they were, they weren't talking much about it. The entire line was just coming off the doldrums of the nineties, and while there were a few good solid superhero books coming out around then - like the underrated Nicienza run on Thunderbolts - it was a quiet time at Marvel.

Which is a shame, because in the middle of this dead zone, you get one of the single greatest moments for Dr. Doom ever.

The Avengers vol 1 got pretty dire in the 90's - six months were spent on a plot about Russian Ninja Pirates vs. The Avengers vs. Russian superheroes vs. Alpha Flight vs some random Atlanteans which was mostly punching people, for example - but it did have some bright spots.

I was chugging through the whole massive bulk of the thing because I wanted to add all the 1990's issues of Avengers vol. 1 to my issue by issue guide to the Avengers, which I've been working on over the years to help fellow ficcers figure out if an issue is worth reading or not, when I came upon these little gems.

No, context doesn't make it better. Prepare for a blast from the past! )

This week, some dark and unstable individuals left the comic book universes they existed in.

Selections from the Incredible Hulk #6 & #7 and B.P.R.D. the Long Death #3.

The fights were ugly and brutal, and in the end the monsters did as they have lived.

Good night, and may you find the peace you did not have in life.

I'm going out of the box slightly here, not by talking about my first comic (could be an issue of the John Byrne run involving a giant snail, a Legends of the Dark Knight issue about the Joker's first journey into supervillainy, or an edited down issue of Batman Adventures, not sure which) but rather, the first time I actually got what made a character so awesome.

And that character was Doctor Doom.

Wow. Really?

... the revelation about who split the Hulk and Banner into 2 separate beings is revealed. As if it wasn't obvious who would go to for something like this.

I don't know if anyone's posted or seen this already, but there are quite a few spoilers here for the upcoming issues of Avengers: the Children's Crusade.

I'm keeping out a few tags on purpose for those who wish for no spoilers.
