Now, I think I've been very restrained for the most part of late, with a distinct lack of chronically imperilled acrobatic heroes, more or less.

Time to sort of remedy that with some scans from a book I found yesterday which was an impulse purchase and not a bad one at that, It's a hardback book called "The World According to the Joker" (There's also one called "The World According to Batman" which I didn't pick up)

It's a glimpse into the Jokers head-space as part of a series of psychological examinations by Dr Arkham

It goes as well as you might expect )

So after Nightwing #0 (The origin of Dick as Robin) and Secret Origins #1 (The origin of Dick as Robin), we now have Secret Origins #8 giving us... the origin of Dick as Robin.... The New 52 seems to have some sort of complex about this....

First up is the recovery of something that seemed to have been lost in the New 52, Dick's ethnicity...

Now scans_daily welcomes those of all religious persuasions, or no religious persuasion at all, and long may it continue to do so.

And whilst appreciating that there are those for whom this day is not particularly special, or whose religious celebrations occur at other times of the year, I hope no one will be offended if I post a couple of Christmas themed special pieces.

So who is on the Naughty List? )

Now my past few “Main posts” have tended towards the verbose, but I suspect that I don’t really need to be for this one, as the scans will do most of the work.

If you can’t work out who I would nominate for this, then I think it’s safe to say that either you are new here (in which case “Hi!”) or you haven’t been paying attention! :)

Who else COULD it be, but the owner of the most maximus of gluteus

I've been through a LOT of writers in my time, in the comic book consumer sense of course. Some have been great, some have been pretty awful, some have been workmanlike, and some have transcended the genre.

Neil Gaiman was a terribly tempting choice, as were Alan Moore and Grant Morrison (particularly early in their career), who were genuinely groundbreaking in the US comic format, and Gaiman at least still earns an automatic (if trial) pull on any new title he writes, and Mark Gruenwald deserves honorary mention for producing many excellent stories playing in the Marvel toybox, but there's another who IMHO always produces quality work. If he's writing the "classic" characters he treats them with respect but not reverence, and usually has a new twist on them, and if he's writing his own characters they may seem somewhat familiar, but there's something else going on to surprise us.

I mean, of course...

For this question, I had an actual answer ready, because it's been there since I was pretty dang young: Wayne Manor! Though technically I wouldn't want to visit there, I would want to live there. Particularly the Wayne Manor I grew up with, which was bright and kind of cozy despite the opulence as opposed to filled with dark wood and angst and portraits to prove that the Wayne Bloodline is inherently superior (a trait that seems to go hand in hand with having a lot of money).

But even so, there's still movie night and midnight snacks and after school snacks and best of all Alfred. Also if you poke around you're sure to find all sorts of mid-century once-thought-to-be-healthy doo-dads like UV lamps, medicine balls and those boxes where people used to sit with their heads poking out. It's just the place to go when you need to sleep off a hypnotic state, fella.

It seems like there's two definitions of Elseworlds: the "what if?" kind, where one thing is different and it changes everything, and the "in a different universe" kind where everyone works in a coffee shop etc. I tend to be more fond of the latter type and comics lend themselves to it big time.

This is one of which I was always rather fond. I think because Gotham lends itself to Gotham by Gaslight AUs, obviously, but this one adds that Lovecraft sensibility that's different from the Gotham we have now, yet not actually all that different.

"Jason? You down...here?"

So my favorite Elseworld this year is The Doom That Came to Gotham. )

Just in time for Tom Blake's New 52 debut tomorrow, here we celebrate the existence of a man who's had almost as many face changes as Doctor Who himself since his initial inception in 1963! (Also the year Doctor Who debuted, fyi).

The Many Faces of Thomas Blake, aka The Catman! )

Also, sorry this is late. Photobucket wasn't cooperating with me ever since it received 938445989 upgrades. :(

Let's get something out of the gate: I love Barbara Gordon in almost any incarnation. I love Batgirl in almost any incarnation. There is only one specific intersection of the two, however, that makes it into the ranks of my Favorite Female Character.

That specific intersection, of course, being the one played by Yvonne Craig on the Adam West show.
