Years ago, Marvel published a series of one-shots with a quirky premise: These were comics purportedly published within the Marvel Universe, the comics that the people living in the Marvel Universe read. I hadn't thought about them for a long time, but wizardru's recent entry on the line's X-Men one-shot reminded me.

Each of the one-shots took the concept in a somewhat different direction. The Thor one-shot is premised on the idea that most people in the Marvel Universe don't believe he's really a god. So, naturally, Thor comic books in the Marvel Universe are about a hero who uses technology to pretend to be a magic deity.

Walter Simonson's run of The Mighty Thor is just perfect. The Warriors Three are a big part of that perfection.

The Asgardians have just defeated Surtur and saved the Nine Realms. Time to head home? Odin's Stones, no! Volstagg, Hogun and Fandral hit the streets for some errands and Midgard fun!

They, in the words of Carl from ATHF, "Don't need instructions to know how to rock!"

Plus a scene from the cute flirtation that Beta Ray Bill and Sif had around that time.

So yeah, it's the End of the Big Epic Battle issue, where the Status Quo Will Never Be the Same!, which in Thor-land means it must be Tuesday. Thor broody Odin snarky Loki snotty World Tree fungi nasty boom de yada boom de yada...look a double page spread oh look another double page spread wow these double page spreads make picking just four pages tough boom de yada boom de yada...

But we do get one cryptic page with a beloved minor character.

This is one of my favorite moments from the Straczynski run on Thor. The reaction from Thor when he confronts Tony about the clone that Stark, Reed and Skrull-Pym created during the Civil War.

Thor has just returned to Midgard and placed Asgard in it's new home of Broxton, Oklahoma. He's searching for the lost Asgardians when he encounters Iron Man in New Orleans and shows him a different definition of power.

She and mortal boytoy Bill are so awesome they managed to catch the eye and heart of a confirmed DC Girl here. A quick look at her Marvel Database Project page gives her first appearance as February 2008 - is that all? - the creation of J.M. Straczynski and Oliver Coipel.

Here is Kelda being awesome when Norse-thugs hassle her beloved.

I hope we get to see more of Kelda (and Valhalla Bill) even now that JMS and Co. are off the book...

This post is about one of my favorite moments of Loki-Dickery. The fire-demon Surtur prepares to lay waste to Asgard and all creation. So All-Father Odin calls for all Asgardians, good and evil, to fight against him. He calls Balder the Brave from his self-imposed exile act as a ambassador to Loki. But dealing with Loki is never a simple deal.....
