One of the things that greatly annoyed me about The Authority and, later, Midnighter's solo run was that Apollo was constantly abused, beaten up and defeated and Midnighter had to save his ass. If Midnighter was the one who got in trouble, he was also the one who'd hauled his own ass out of there.

BUT! There came a time when even the Night Bringer of War, Death, Pestilance and Twillight marathons on TV had to have someone save him. That someone was... ( The Magnificent Kev! )

In PREACHER: THE STORY OF YOU-KNOW-WHO, Garth Ennis gave the origin story of Arseface. It is one of the few elements of PREACHER that date the series. (Another: In PREACHER #31, a flashback of Jesse shows he got to see Bill Hicks perform live and talk to him in person.) If they ever get around to adapting PREACHER as a movie or cable series, Arseface's origin will have to be updated, unless the movie/series is actually set in the mid to late 1990s.
In a very weird way, the Arseface origin story appears to be Garth Ennis' take on Dan Savage's "It Gets Better Project" about 15 years before the "It Gets Beter Project."
11 pages of a 50 page story after the cut. Garth Ennis wrote it, so the F-word and other curses are used a lot. The art is by Richard Case.

Chronicles of Wormwood: The Last Battle #6

Yeah, issue #4 of Jennifer Blood wasn't too much fun, so here I am to put up pages from Garth Ennis that I actually like.

For some reason, The Last Battle took a really damned long time to conclude. The last issue came out in February and, of course, ended on a cliffhanger before the series disappeared into a black hole. Fortunately, issue #6 finally came out last week.

The main plot of The Last Battle is almost irrelevant. The main plot threads involve Jay, who's finally recovering his faculties, and Wormwood himself dealing with the pressures of imminent fatherhood. Jay, the second coming of Christ, and Wormwood, who happens to be a successful television producer, have a new plan.

You know, reaching this issue makes me realize just how much of Bloodlines I've posted already, totally thought I had a few more issues before I reached the Demon Annual.

Can't say I've ever been a big Garth Ennis fan, this might even be the only comic I own that he worked on, still it was surprisingly amusing.
