Was cleaning up a closet last weekend and came upon my cache of original Teen Titans floppies. Here's a little treat from 1972, "Through These Doors Pass the Bravest Titans of Them All," or as I like to think of it, "That time Donna shaved her head and crossdressed for justice!" I've got six pages of an 18-page story, and therefore am cutting the Mal sequence down to a mere preview image.

That's Mal having a flashback to a childhood beat-down, to explain his heretofore unheard-of fear of wide open spaces, which he must overcome in order to repair a lunar landing guidance module.

( Say what, now? )

So there you go - not bad for an ish where nobody even makes it into costume!

As a general rule it sucks to be female in Military Comics. You show up, and, in three to five pages, you will die or betray everything you every believed in all for a hot guy you will never see again. At best you get out of there alive to never been seen again.

If you have your own title though, things turn out alright for you. For example see X of the Underground, a female member of the European underground resistance.

All stories and most art by Vernon Henkel (The Space Legion, Marvel titles during the early 1950s, mostly stuck to artwork after the 1940s).

Okay, I would like to apologize beforehand to the community and mods if this doesn't apply for the community - it's my first time to post here in this version of S_D.

Anyway, I'd like to introduce you to how Japan can manage to mangle stereotypes, and then keep it part of their culture, resulting in WTF-ery that made me giggle like a school girl.

( And you thought Sailor Bacon was bad. Possibly NSFW. )

Interesting thing, though, is that both are by nature with masculine traits, totally jarring with the feminine overtones. It's like Danny the Street from Doom Patrol, or the Village People.

I started reading this on a whim and it turned out to be the best darn thing I've read for months, maybe even years.
Transient Son (Houro Musuko)(or Wandering Son) by Japanese cartoonist Shimura Takako is the story about Shuichi Nitori, a gradeschool boy coming to terms with transexuality, gender identity and puberty.

No fetishization, no gimmickry. Just...
