Suicide Squad #20 - this is a new day
May. 8th, 2013 09:46 pmWow, nobody's posted Suicide Squad yet? Okay then. It's part 1 of 2 "Discipline & Punish." 4 pages.
( A-okay - 'Weltschmerz' is a word. )
Tag notes: There's no tag for Voltaic; there is a tag for the other character in these pages, but I'm leaving it off for now so's not to spoil the reveal. There's also no tag for writer Ales Kot.

Teen Titans #18 - "To Belle And Back"
Mar. 27th, 2013 07:27 pmFour pages from Teen Titans #18 here, in which as with last issue we still have lots of plot threads, but they're moving closer to converging.
( We're the only ones who can save each other. )
BTW, it's a little hard to count pages on this thing since they're still double-page spread happy and the pages aren't labeled, but it's Eddy Barrows and Eber Ferreira on art pages 1-16 and Rodney Buchemi on pages 17-20. By my count that's the last two pages of the Two Teams Fight scenes and the two Times Square pages.

I don't know if this was ever posted at the old Scans Daily, but it hasn't been posted here! Parts of six pages from five issues.
Back in 1989, a mysterious new character started communicating with the Suicide Squad via computer. The Squad's computer technician (and you may all marvel at the super-modern computers) was Flo Crawley, an idealistic young woman given a job by Amanda Waller, who is apparently a friend of her mother Edna Mae.
First contact!

( Then The Wall finds out... )

Bloodbath #1
Apr. 30th, 2011 12:31 amThe Bloodlines have ended. The heroes of the DCU are now finally able to assemble against the Parasite threat, but will it be enough? Or will it be the fall of Earth?
18 pages of a 56 page story.
I have to also warn you that while the art of the Annuals each had specific teams who were used to the books they were on... but the artists who worked on Bloodbath varied, and the art seemed very rushed at times. (Including having a page that I won't post with Martian Manhunter on it that hurts my eyes)
( And you thought the Parasites were bad? )

I love the Suicide Squad - specifically, John Ostrander and Kim Yale's Suicide Squad. The only decent thing to come out of the godawful Legends crossover, Ostrander revitalized the espionage comic, turning it into a super-powered Dirty Dozen meets Mission: Impossible. Since then only a few comics have come close to depicting the seamy underside of the DC Universe with any success, and the closest spiritual heir to the Squad today is probably Gail Simone's Secret Six.
The beautiful thing about the Squad was that things always went wrong. Horribly wrong. Excruciatingly, holy crap, we're screwed beyond recognition wrong. And when they still manage to pull off their objectives, there was always a toll, not just in lives, but psyches. As one USENETter put it, "It wouldn't be a Squad mission without the bitter taste of ashes."
If anything else justifies the classic status of the original Squad series, it's that Ostrander and Yale gave us not one, but two indelible characters: Oracle, and the inimitable and incomparable Amanda Waller, mother of all badasses.
One of the many perfect moments in the series, from Suicide Squad #22 (1988) follows:

( I don't... read minds... )

By now, you've prolly heard that Greg Rucka's leaving DC for the foreseeable future to work on other projects. ComicsAlliance has a really good interview on the subject.
And saddened as I am by the news, he's left us a considerable body of work to appreciate. So instead of dreading the prospect of a future without him, let us celebrate the good we have from the past.
( Mostly, Greg, I just wanna say Thank You. )
