What It Takes To Kill The Fury
Dec. 11th, 2011 02:08 pmAlan Moore and Alan Davis' Captain Britain run from the early '80s is one of my favourite superhero stories. It's a legendary story for the way it was so novel for the time. Not enough have read it, although it's influenced Marvel and the character in many ways. You may have heard of the godlike Mad Jim Jaspers and his reality-warping powers; of how he created an artificial super-being, The Fury, which could evolve and adapt to any superhero's powers; how The Fury killed Captain Britain; how Merlin brought him back to life, improved; how The Fury sweeped the floor with his body several more times; how in the end Jaspers and The Fury had an epic creation-killing-the-creator battle. But in the end, it wasn't Captain Britain who took down The Fury; he almost died again, if it weren't for this:

This comic has cheered me up this week, so I thought I'd share.
If you're new to Excalibur, check out this excellent intro post. I think, though, that most of us are familiar with this joyously cracktacular romp across the '80s. This issue is from the period when Alan Davis was both writing and drawing, and it resolves the "Nightcrawler loves Meggan" subplot that had been smouldering since issue 1. But the thing I love most about this comic is that it answers the question: What does an exploding toilet sound like if you're Alan Davis?

Of course it does.

Thor: "Boys Night Out"
Sep. 9th, 2010 06:59 pmGreetings True Believers!
Here are scans from Thor The Mighty Avenger #4. THIS BOOK IS TOO AWESOME.
Seriously, this is my favorite title right now. I bow before Langridge and Samnee.
Why is this issue awesome? Warriors Three, Volstagg, Thor, bar-fight, lost gods, Volstagg, Captain Britain, British Stiff Upper Lip, art, Volstagg!
MARVEL! PUT THE WARRIORS THREE IN ANY TITLE. IT WILL MAKE THAT BOOK BETTER!

EXCALIBUR #16: Lovcraftian tomfoolery
May. 25th, 2010 08:59 pmHere's the climax of EXCALIBUR #16, when the team was bouncing across parallel universes, like a proto-EXILES. I posted a page of this once before, as it involved the first (and only?) time Kitty Pryde ever killed someone.
All the Excalibur members have been separated from each other and lost their powers, and Kurt has just found out he may have mixed up his good guys and bad guys in this world.

suggested tags: char: captain britain/brian braddock, char: meggan, char: nightcrawler/kurt wagner, char: phoenix/marvel girl/rachel summers, char: shadowcat/kitty pryde, creator: chris claremont, creator: alan davis, group: excalibur, publisher: marvel comics, title: excalibur
( Hey, that giant tentacle monster looks familiar )

I promised to post the first team-up between Captain America and Captain Britain from Captain Britain vol. 1 #16-27 and here is the first part covering #17-20. Sadly due to the Captain Britain issues being so short (most of the content was reprints of old issues from various series) I'm only going to be able to post the cover and 2 and 1/3rd pages from each issue.
