Both come out on the 1st of May, so stay tunned for that. Also looking forward to this week Green Arrow #20 (the latest arc is actually pretty damn good, as its done away with what problems people had with the DCnU Green Arrow books and making it its own), and Age of Ultron #7 (Hopefully this event will be over soon so I can get on with my 10 issue review I've been planning to do once its over). It amuses me a lot that this week sees the release of over half my current pull list.

I’ve posted some of Simon Williams work here before. Simon used to produce strips for Panini UK, until Disney pulled their license to produce new Marvel material for the European market. One of his pet projects, which later led to him drawing an official team up between Hulk and Death’s Head in the pages of Panini’s Marvel Heroes title was an unofficial crossover between the characters posted to his Deviantart. Well, recently, Simon posted the missing two pages from the crossover on his blog, adding an unexpected guest star and sending the story into the realms of the halcyon days of Marvel UK at its most cracktastic.

A few pages from issue #5 of the Marvel UK title Dragons Claws. Death's Head was just being repositioned as a solo star after initially being created for the UK Transformers comic and had a couple of guest slots on the way to the relaunch in his own American format title.

This is one of them - after The Doctor (yes, from Doctor Who, who became a semi-regular thorn in Death's Head side) dumped him in the year 8162, ~~bounty hunter~~ freelance peacekeeping agent Death's Head is employed by a rival gang to subdue the violent Jones Boys. Unfortunately, Dragon's Claws - a team of government enforcers - have also been sent to do the same job.

Why is this moment perfect? Because even when demonstrating epic badassery, the one and only thing Death's Head is interested in is his bottom line.

Walt Simonson has just about drawn every major character for every major publisher throughout the last thirty-odd years. Best known for his work on Thor, Starslammers, Fantastic Four, Battlestar Galactica and Orion, Simonson’s style has always been lauded as having the energy to rival Jack Kirby’s. But just as his legendary predecessor’s work was seen, all of the subtlety in Simonson’s work is often overlooked. Even in the most frantic piece, Simonson manages give it a quiet sense of characterization.

Hell, he just draws purty, OK?

Since I can easily make thirty different posts based on his covers alone, I’ve posted some of my personal favorite comics and covers by Simonson.

I wasn't much interested in the announcement of a S.W.O.R.D. ongoin, announced at Wizardworld Chicago, despite the presence of Beast and the promise of Lockheed as the team's Wolverine. Until I read this interview.

I wonder who they could be talking about.

But don't call him a bounty hunter. He's a freelance peace keeping agent, right?
