Since I was a big fan of the Helena Bertinelli Huntress, I was very dismayed when DC eliminated her with the new-52 reboot.  But I recently learned that she has been a recurring character in the show Arrow on the CW.  So far she's appeared in four episodes: 1x07, 1x08, 1x17, and 2x17, all four of which I've now watched.  I have to say, I was quite pleased with her portrayal.  They actually managed to make her more ruthless than in the comics, which is a big plus in my book.  Sadly, 2x17, entitled "Birds of Prey," ended in a way that will make it difficult for the show to bring her back anytime in the near future, but it didn't preclude an eventual return, so I'm pretty happy.  Anyway, in honor of this, I decided to post a few pages from Birds of Prey: Blood and Circuits.

Behold: Huntress' dark(er) doppelganger.... )

Inspired by icon_uk's and auggie18's Accentuate the Positive posts, here's a contribution of my own!

I've always believed that although Gotham contains the worst examples of comic book humanity, it also creates the best, most shining examples of it to aid her innocents.

Case in point: Dick!Batman, Huntress, and a certain Father Mark from the East End of Gotham:

I miss Helena Bertinelli as the Huntress. I know a lot of the "member of the Bat-family that doesn't quite fit in and has issues" slot has been filled by Jason Todd in the Nu52. I just miss her.

As I mentioned it in my Killer Croc post from a week or so ago, here's the issue that presents YET ANOTHER different version of the character. In addition to an exploration of Leslie Thompkin's beliefs and Helena interacting with Cass Cain for the first time.

I have... let's just say I have strong feelings with regard to the rebooted Batgirl. Most of them negative. But rather than going into that and getting myself all grumpy, I thought I'd celebrate the kick-ass character that is Barbara Gordon with some of my favourite Oracle-being-awesome moments.

And now to contrast Barbara Gordon's fight with Gretel, how about 4 pages of Helena Wayne's own personal brand of justice against the Chairman of Kufra himself?

Aside from some cliche dialogue and some blantant misogyny, this was actually a pretty good issue. In fact it was shit tonnes better than the last three issues, which makes me wonder why this mini didn't pick up pace sooner.

As for Helena Wayne's characterisation in this issue...let's just say this issue will either make or break the deal for any pre-existing Huntress fans. I don't think I need to clarify my position on this comm since this is *me* we're talking about, but I will say that this definitely has me excited for the series' conclusion next month, and even moreso with Power Girl making an appearance.

Looks like this issue will be tonnes better than the last, and Helena sheds more light on her upbringing.

I’m led to believe now, Earth-2 Batman was just like his original Golden Age version, who used to kill people. I also think she’s being more Selina-like in her approach to fighting crime. Maybe Earth-2 Selina was the post-Crisis Selina? I’m starting to increasingly believe this is *very* likely.

Gotta say, compared to last year, this year has been good to me and am very much looking forward to 2012! :)

Among the positives of 2011...I guess rejoining this comm after my two year hiatus from it. I was originally a member of the LJ comm before it got flushed by the LJ Gods, and was mostly active there in 2007-2008 (around the time I actually got into mainstream comics). Admittedly I was reluctant to rejoin this comm at first since I noticed things were a bit...well *different* from the original LJ version, but after being here the last couple of months, I gotta say it's been worth it. :}

Comics-wise? Heh...honestly? I've only read three titles that were published this year prior to the relaunch: Power Girl, Gotham City Sirens, and Birds of Prey Vol. 2; all of them being girl-leading books. (You are all now free to tell me I've missed out on a lot. I've had one person tell me that already). :P

All three books were okay this year. Admittedly I felt Power Girl's book was better under the Jimmy Palmiotti/Amanda Conner team since they captured the character's wit and essence beautifully while bringing a sense of fun to the book. It was certainly a nice change of pace from the grim and gritty books I was accustomed to reading. Under Judd Winick...the book had its moments but didn't have the same flavour from the previous run. :(

So now I wrap up this post (and the last remaining hours of the year) with my favourite BOP scene of 2011!!!! :D

Is there booze? Oh yes. Epic fun? Most definitely. Naked beefcakey men? Haha, you'll have to click and see! ;) )

As the saying goes...HAPPY NEW YEAR PEEPS! ;)

From Detective Comics #662. Some of the Riddler's goons are robbing the post office without the Riddler:

Plus there was that episode of The Simpsons.
"Hello. My name is Mr. Burns. I believe you have a letter for me."
"Okay, Mr. Burns. What's your first name?"
"...I don't know!"
Also, a character in the issue is named Dr. Simpson Flanders.

Not the only roof rat in town. )
