Some Kickbutt Moments from BoP 6, starring Helena Bertinelli (plus some possible Babs/Dinah subtext)
Nov. 10th, 2010 06:58 pmThis issue of Birds of Prey was really good, and full of kickass moments. I highly recommend getting it. Also, no more Benes artwork! I don't know if it was that the story got a lot better all of a sudden, or if his pencils detracted so much from my enjoyment of the comic, but this issue was back to almost feeling like the old Birds of Prey.

Tim's first trip to Hong Kong - pt. 1
Nov. 6th, 2010 05:39 pmSince Tim will be travelling to Hong Kong again in the next issue of Red Robin, I thought it might be nice to post an old story that also took place there. This is from one of Tim's early Robin miniseries, before the title became an ongoing. Although the story ends with Tim preventing an outbreak of bubonic plague in Hong Kong, the first issue is set in France.

DC loves me, gives me a birthday present
Feb. 3rd, 2010 05:54 pm
I guess DC heard that my birthday is Friday, because they delayed Question #37 for this week (you can tell because it still has last week's DC Nation).

Going Silently in to the Night
Sep. 13th, 2009 06:26 pmSmall foreword before starting the post itself. I originally intended to this post back in the Martial Arts week a few weeks back, but then I was snared by the simple awesomeness of Batman: Arkham Asylum, after which I had to return to work with my vacation having ended. So this post kind of simmered away, but I still kind of wanted to do it due to several discussions I have had and read on the subject, so here it is finally happening. With that said, to the first part of the topic itself.
As promised round 2 between two of the greatest martial artists in the DCU.

Before Round 2 vs Lady Shiva and my little finale in posting in this event. The prelimary bout: Cassandra fighting her father's "first" the one called the Mad Dog.

Chuck Dixon's 2004 Richard Dragon series was lousy, to be sure, but it definitely had one thing going for it. Scott McDaniel's art, while no one is accusing it of being pretty, has an energy and flow that fit the series like a glove and made every fight a joy to read.
As evidence, I bring you the climactic clash between Richard and Lady Shiva.

A Martial Arts Week special!

O'Neil: Vic the Seeker (pt 4)
The Great Fables Crossover! (sorry Vertigo fans, not that one)
In 1988, Denny O'Neil set off to tell a great martial arts epic, and close the book on the O-Sensei, the old master introduced in Kung-Fu Fighter, responsible for teaching Richard Dragon, Bronze Tiger and Lady Shiva. While I prolly should've held this one off until after I'd posted the arc from Question v1 16-18, where Vic and Ollie first met, well, who's fault was it starting Martial Arts Week now?
But though this crossover takes place in titles starring Batman, Green Arrow and The Question,

Who's in? It's easy, all you have to do is post from your favorite martial arts related comic!
To kick us off, I've got kind of a long discussion to start here...
So let's see what you guys have!

No DOOM, only SIN (part 1)
Jun. 5th, 2009 01:57 pmSorta continuing my previous posts of cute kids from the DCU.
I like Sin and thought there was a lot of potential in her and Dinah's relationship. I definitely hate what happened to her and the apparent reasons why. I thought I would go through Sin's brief appearance (12 issues in all) and subsequent disappearance. Warning: this post contains an amazing amount of Dinah being awesome and badass.
From issues #92-#95 of Birds of Prey (collected in TPB Vol 5: Perfect Pitch) There are a lot of scans here, but I don't go over the 7 page rule for any issue.
