I dislike dwelling on the negative things in life. I'd rather revel in the good things we had, to celebrate them, even in their absence (which is when I usually realize I really like something). That was the case with Avengers Academy. I'd didn't realize I was hooked until It was too late.
So I'm going to do a retrospective posts. This covers Avengers Academy #1 through #6 and includes their psuedo-Crossover with Thunderbolts (#147) and one appearance in the Ant Man-Wasp mini. To be honest, Academy wasn't the best of series, but it had heart and an underlying theme which slowly revealed itself over it's run. Mostly? Thumbing its nose at mainstream comic conventions. That'll become more obvious later.
Let's get the ball rolling.

"Black to the Future!"

As requested, here's Hudlin's Black Panther annual. I'm posting eleven pages out of a thirty-four page issue.

So this is the final Alias post, marking the end of the series. The entire series is available in four trade paperbacks (or an oversized omnibus edition) so be sure to check them out if you liked these posts.
Finally, a trigger warning as this story features the Purple Man reimagined as a rapist. Just getting that out there.

Because I can't get enough Jessica Jones
Nov. 22nd, 2011 08:53 pmThese are from the Pulse. Jess is pregnant throughout the 14-issue series and gives birth to Danielle at the end.
The series is a great concept: J. Jonah Jameson wants to gain more readers, and in order to do so launches a new weekly series written by Ben Ulrich. Jess is hired as a consultant/go-between. She takes the job because she and Luke need the health benefits/insurance money. Luke's not entirely pleased about having their superhero lives splashed in the pages of the Bugle. He says he's not famous and nobody knows him. Jess chides him by saying that everyone knows him and loves him. This becomes a running joke throughout the series with people on the street walking up to Luke and telling him what fans they are.
There are some great scenes in this, and the last issue is fantastic and tells the story of how Jess and Luke met.
Here are some of my favourite scenes. First up... Carol, Sue and Jess talk superhero mommy-ing.
( First up: Mom talk with Jess, Sue and Carol )
( Dani comes into the world... )
( Jess tells Danielle how mommy and daddy met )

Nov. 1st, 2011 07:03 pmAt SDCC this year, Marvel announced the release of a five-issue series of one-shots - 40 pages of "all-new material/no reprints" (according to the solicits) at $3.99 - focusing on what "some of the most popular Avengers think about what it takes to be a member of the legendary team" (from the marvel.com article linked at the bottom of this).
They are:
- Ant-Man & the Wasp, written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with interior art by Stéphanie Hans (out Nov. 2 - tomorrow!)
- Vision, written by Kyle Higgins and Alec Siegel with interior art by Stephane Perger (Nov. 9)

- Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver, written by Sean McKeever with interior art by Mirco Pierfederici (Nov. 23)
- Thor, written by Kathryn Immonen with interior art by Al Barrionuevo (Nov. 30)
( Covers, solicits, and all sorts of previews (only from the first four, sorry) ahoy! )
More info is available from a marvel.com article in which each writer/writing team explains briefly what their goals are for their issue and a Newsarama interview with all writers except Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

I *really* like these panels.
I realize some people dislike the "interview" panels the preface many avengers book but on the whole I think they're a great idea. They show that the humanity of the Marvel universe.

Here are a few scans from Avengers #16. The Avengers visit the confessional booth to talk about Cap.
They embrace a theory I've held myself for quite awhile.
Enjoy!
