"I don't think you can write comics without trying to reflect what's going on in the real world. I mean, that's kind of our job. I believe we have two jobs we have to do simultaneously: We have to reflect what's going on in the real world and we have to entertain you.

So I wouldn't say it was, like, wanting to go after that. It was more like, we can't write without doing that.

And we wanted to show that this movement, this thing, this idea that Lee Bermejo had, which was brilliant, of all these people being inspired by these Robins, is kind of a double-edged sword. It's inspiring and wonderful, but it's also a bunch of kids on the street trying to do jobs they might not be prepared for. And we wanted to examine whether that was a good thing or bad thing. Not come down on one side of the other. It stays a little bit gray.

Light warning for violence.

Now here was a mini-event I was looking forward to. Tom King's first crossover event? That sounds like fun, especially with the previews and small brief bits of info I heard about. However, warning signals went off in my head the moment I saw the amount of people working on the first issue alone...

So, simple question... what was your favourite moment/scene/story/arc of the past year?

If you want to make a post about it, that would be fine, though you can of course, post in the replies here. If possible tell us WHY you liked it best.

I bet you might have already guessed what mine was )

This issue was really good! Lots of moving pieces that turn out to be functional to the story (and arc) as a whole, and a credit to everybody involved, fictional and otherwise.

Let's look at the 4 best moments from this surprisingly contemplative issue about Damian Wayne, what Robin means to him, and the nature of forgiveness.

Newsrama: So how would you describe the overall tone you're going for with Robin: Son of Batman?

Patrick Gleason: "How about "Punch-you-in-the-face fun! with a dash of 'Awww?'"

Seriously though, it's going to be real high-flying — literally — globe-hopping adventure with Damian and co.

"To Damian, Batman is bigger than just being his father. Or just being Bruce. He's also an ideal and a standard. Batman saved him. Batman is the cowl and the legacy that he has to live up to. And we'll see in this book whether or not he will be able to live up to it." - Patrick Gleason

"The Year of Blood was this period in Damian's life that was this insane run of tests that Ra's and Talia put him through to initiate him into the al Ghul family and to prepare him for his role as the heir to the line. For one intense year, he was charged with specific tests that he had to carry out every day. We've seen that Damian likes to collects trophies. [Laughs] He takes things and holds onto them. And the Year of Blood was something that he held onto, dearly, for some time. And now he sees it as something completely different. Now that his world has flipped and he is a hero, he sees that it might have been dragging him down. It threatens his future and his own legacy. And now he has set out to atone for these sins. And through that, we're going to peel back the layers and see what he got into in the past and how that all affects him now. The actions of his past are still there in the present and there's going to be a reckoning." - Patrick Gleason

"When Grant Morrison first wrote young Damian, he was being thrown into his father's lap by his mother Talia Al Ghul. We saw a little boy assassin on a journey that eventually led to him taking his first steps away from his old life and down the narrow path that Pete and I tackled as he was becoming the Alpha and Omega of Robins.

Now the question is, where does he go from here? In #1, Damian finds himself at a new precipice, and he has to make the choice to step out on his own and risk the unknown yet again. Only now he has his father's voice, and others, ringing in his ears.

Damian is on the next leg of his journey to find out what his future holds and whose legacy he'll ultimately inherit.

"Obviously, with the events spilling out of Batman #40, things are definitely going to be different for everyone in Gotham! But for Damian, we'll focus on his world that stretches far beyond the city. Also we'll look back into his past to see what it means to his future.

I'm interested in unwrapping the layers about how Damian sees himself and what it means to be the "Son of Batman." Talk about pressure! Think about it. No one else can claim that legacy. It is what truly defines Damian and makes him unique as a Robin.

When last we left our cartographic heroine, she was forming a club to protect the school from the various evils that seem to pop up all the time in Gotham. Also, Damian Wayne enrolled in the school.
