After yesterday's Canonical Romances, today we celebrate the NON-Canonical Romances, those romances which never were, but perhaps should have been.... be they straight, gay, queer or whatever else your heart desires.

The only rule is that the comics can NEVER have acknowledged the romance as having existed... bromances or the equivalent female term (is there one, I have no idea to be honest) are acceptable, but they must imply something more than simple friendship (Which will pose issues with a lot of Claremont's stuff, where it was as close to text as being the subtext as could possibly be)

As for me...

Well, a few possibilities present themselves.. )

Now scans_daily welcomes those of all religious persuasions, or no religious persuasion at all, and long may it continue to do so.

And whilst appreciating that there are those for whom this day is not particularly special, or whose religious celebrations occur at other times of the year, I hope no one will be offended if I post a couple of Christmas themed special pieces.

So who is on the Naughty List? )

The end of BATMAN: ZERO YEAR had Batman comparing himself to a lightning rod for Gotham City. I had read that before, in PENGUIN TRIUMPHANT. It was a 1992 graphic novel about the Penguin out the same time BATMAN RETURNS was released.

I somehow managed to not pay attention to the fact that DC Comics have declared July 23 "Batman Day", to celebrate 75 years of his publication.... I feel slightly embarassed about that, as I should have thought to propose an event in advance.

On the other hand, nothing to stop me declaring one now! :)

Batman and Sons has a few words to say on the matter )
So, to celebrate the admittedly impressive milestone,  if you have a favourite Batman moment, image or story, let's see it (Or you can request one if there's one you've always wanted to see!)

Happy Batday!

Over in my neck of the woods, there's still a few hours of Father's Day left, so let's celebrate it with one of my favorite Bat-writers of all time: Chuck Dixon! And this obscure little character he created named... uh, what was it again? Oh yeah - Stephanie Brown.

Jokes aside, I'm one of *those* Steph fans. The kind that basically lost track of her as soon as Dixon left DC, I mean. To this day, I'm still not sure whether I like the character in and of herself, or whether I just really liked the way that Dixon could spin an engaging, at least half-decent story out of literally any concept (the guy once wrote a Robin comic that was 22 pages of not-Barney vs. not-Mr. Rogers, for crying out loud). I hope to get to the bottom of that mystery soon, by finally diving into Steph's Batgirl series, but for now, let's take a gander at Steph's debut arc.

As may, or may not, be known, the planned issue of Nightwing #30 by Kyle Higgins and with guest art by Meghan Hetrick was set aside to make way for the King and Seeley Nightwing #30 that came out last week, and despite having Bruce and Dick half naked for much of the time... did not exactly set the fanbase aglow with positivity.

Meghan has now posted all the approved, though unlettered, art pages, and has put them up for sale, so we can see what the original issue would have looked like

And it would have looked bloody spectacular! )

Given how... unimpressed I've been by what I've seen of Nightwing #30 (Don't have the issue myself, but there are enough pieces of it poppping around that I've put it together), I thought that rather than complain (well, right now, I might complain later) let's do something a little more positive, so here is Fanart Thursday special!

A Batfamily special )
